i don’t think we realize just how MASSIVE things in space are

The iconic Carina Nebula image from JWST with a red square zooming into the orange region and showing the size of our solar system, including the Sun, Jupiter belt, Pluto, and Voyager 1 relative to that region of the nebula.

JWST's "Cosmic Cliffs". 🔭 🧪

This is a NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) image from the James Webb Space Telescope of the "Cosmic Cliffs" in the Carina Nebula. The image is dominated by textured formations of gas and dust in warm tones of orange, brown, and gold, resembling a rugged cliff face. Bright, star-forming regions are visible within the cliffs, glowing with a soft light. The top portion of the image shows a transition to a deep blue, star-filled space. Numerous distinct stars are scattered throughout the image, some displaying a starburst effect from the telescope's optics.

NGC 4298 by JWST. Processing: John Bozeman. www.astrobin.com/vzqmio 🔭 🧪

A NIRCam image of the spiral galaxy NGC 4298, showcasing its prominent central bulge and well-defined spiral arms. The image reveals the distribution of stars and dust in the galaxy, with bright star formation regions visible along the arms. The galaxy's asymmetrical structure and interaction with its companion galaxy (NGC 4302, not pictured) are notable features.

This dim and distant world is the farthest planet from the Sun, about 30 times farther away than planet Earth. Details of the complex ring system are seen here for the first time since Neptune was visited by the Voyager 2 spacecraft in August 1989. Image Credit: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, NIRCam

Stars form in super-cold clouds of gas and dust. Gas clumps collide, and build mass, eventually collapsing to form stars. #NASAWebb’s view of the Serpens Nebula shows a dense cluster of newly forming stars that is about 100,000 years old. Credit: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI. 🔭 🧪

$A young star-forming region is filled with wispy orange, red, and blue layers of gas and dust. The upper left corner of the image is filled with mostly orange dust, and within that orange dust, there are several small red plumes of gas that extend from the top left to the bottom right, at the same angle. The center is filled with mostly blue gas. At the center, there is one particularly bright star that has an hourglass shadow above and below it. To the right of that is what looks a vertical eye-shaped crevice with a bright star at the center. The gas to the right of the crevice is a darker orange. Small points of light are sprinkled across the field, brightest stars in the field have extensive eight-pointed diffraction spikes.$

Small fraction of the deep universe. By @thocarp.bsky.social www.flickr.com/photos/19746... 🔭 🧪

A deep-field image captured by the James Webb Space Telescope's NIRCam instrument, showcasing the aftermath of a colossal collision between two galaxy clusters. The image reveals a complex web of galaxies, gas, and dust, with the most prominent feature being a bridge of hot gas stretching between the two main clusters.

Thinking of something I believe Soulsborne Lore YouTuber @vaatividya.bsky.social said in an old video highlighting a theory of the passage of time in Dark Souls being tied to light. To see it as a concept so often being reinforced in our own cosmos is just incredible to me.

Something I don't see creatives talk about so much is the crushing letdown and depression that can follow finishing up a huge project that has consumed you. Like you are suddenly cut adrift with no purpose. Got to reach for a lifeboat. That next thing...
