Sure hope we get these, uh, snazzy outfits as equipment in the MTG Star Trek set 🤣 And to think I was under the impression that TOS S3 had lowering budgets, clearly not given the glitter suits and piping they found for these lol

A screenshot from Star Trek TOS Season 3 "The Tholian Web". Kirk, Spock and McCoy are in glittery silver spacesuits.

Our vet was able to squeeze us in early this morning for surgery, but we need a HEFTY payment up front to get started, we need $3000 which we DO NOT HAVE. PLEASE, PLEASE help us get our cat taken care of, she's barely an adult and I'm distraught. Anything helps, please share if you can't donate.

Islands & Trains if you just want a calm creation game. Stardew Valley, Balatro, Slay the Spire all good for a strong reward loop.

I find No Man's Sky or Elite: Dangerous to be good, especially once you get going with a nice long space trucking route. Star of Providence is my current jam, roguelite shmup. Viscera Cleanup Detail is an amusing job sim that's good for mindless time.

A company well worth following - I reviewed Venba earlier this year and I think it's outstanding. It tells a story much needed in these unhappy times, and it does so in a compelling and heartfelt way. thealmightybacklog.wordpress.com/2026/03/22/v...

As much as I'm reluctant to add more to my plate re: the blog, especially as this year I've so often been behind on it, after last night's stream I'm vaguely considering if I have the capacity to add in occasional mid-week reviews of smaller games like the NES stuff I played last night 🤔

Really fun stream today: - kind of got into 3D World Runner - Action 52 even worse than expected - Nightmare on Elm Street was so much fun - despite my preconceptions I got really really into Battle Kid - Battletoads / Double Dragon was awesome. Roll on next stream for more NESbook games!

The right-wing rage at, of all things, animals on our banknotes is absolutely absurd. It truly is a distillation of childish impotence, retained into adulthood. It is demonstrably *fine* for British wildlife to be on our cash. It's not even remotely an issue. What a farce.

The arcane aspects of Marvel are some of the deepest, weirdest and best parts of the comics, and allowing Magic story writers to help craft a unique story within it is incredible. As long as they do Strange, Scarlet Witch and the like justice on cards, this sounds incredible!

I'm not the most *into* the Marvel UB mainly because comics stuff isn't my usual scene, but the new Darkhold set looks like a pretty cool idea! Its focus might help bridge the gap in vibes between MtG and Marvel, but the brand-new narrative arc writing is what REALLY intrigues me!

It's also a view super prevalent in game design, especially indie spaces - people care if art is made with genAI, but coding is somehow fine despite using all the same tech and infrastructure that causes vast environmental damage. It's all using the same data centres, folks.

120 2

Ellie, Who Slows the Sunset @ellie.wubrgsky.org · 09/10/2026

It's a really upsetting and frustrating reality that so much of the modern emulation and de/re-comp scenes are just made by vibecoding, and people treat that as if it's fine and has no material impact on the world. But like, it does? And you don't get to just ignore that.

History - world history, but also simply the foundation of the US - tells us that eventually a limit is reached and an uprising happens. But if that happens, what then? I worry that the answer is to restore the status quo and then you're just inviting this to happen over and over and over again.

110 1

Ellie, Who Slows the Sunset @ellie.wubrgsky.org · 09/10/2026

I wish I could look forward in time and see where this ends for America. It seems patently obvious that Trump is going to either rig the midterms or incite another round of cult-driven violence to solidify his power, but what then?

100 1

Ellie, Who Slows the Sunset @ellie.wubrgsky.org · 09/10/2026

I know this could be said almost any day, but the news out of the US today is absolutely sickening. It was not that long ago that America was rightly criticising IS for livestreaming executions, and now the federal government is announcing they will do just that. Truly gross.

The more I play the more I find myself these days gravitating towards B2 and B5 only; I either want very casual fun or serious play, but the in-between brackets feel like a hinterland, and the need for optimisation and value engines doesn't really bring me joy in the way it might once have done.

020 2

Ellie, Who Slows the Sunset @ellie.wubrgsky.org · 08/10/2026

Got the win yesterday in the classic underdog fashion - by doing nothing at all until the bigger threats were eliminated and then swooping in with aggro and a lockdown option. The game highlighted some of my bugbears with B3, but I'm lucky to have wonderful friends so I still enjoyed the game.

1. ✅ 2. Neither of those - this one's a well-known, slightly more modern movie that challenges the genre. 3. ✅ 4. Not quite, though a strong guess from the Norwegian flag. This one's a classic from the 1980s. 5. Iron Lung's a great guess, but no; this one's a late 90s sci-fi horror cult classic
