If anyone has a room they'd be prepared to split/a shared place with a sofa bed for Command Fest Leicester nex month, please let me know. Recent changes to circumstances mean there's a very good chance I can now attend. Travel should be fine, but just need to sort acommodation.

The last game for Abigale (possibly ever, possibly in this configuration). She didn't really shout loud, more mumbled the lines. Deck is trying to do too many things at once and ends up not doing any of them. I want to make it work because the deck name is too good. I'm just not sure how.

The 2026 Moxtober prompts have been released. This time it's Macbeth themed, awkward because witches don't form a major part of any of my roadmapped custom sets. However, I'm still committing to each design being part of the proposed sets I have planned. Each post will contain the set name.

Absolutely loved playing Reality Fracture this evening. It's a running joke that I play more than 40 cards at prerelease, but this time, I think it was justified. Such a wild amount of removal in this pool, with just enough win conditions to help me close out a 3-0, 6-0 tonight. #MTGFRA

I'm not much of a Pokémon person, but my son is & trying to buy him cards at retail prices has been nigh on impossible the last couple of years, and I refuse to pay scalpers for anything. So it warms the cockles of my heart to see so many of them having a full meltdown about the recent set. Enjoy!!

If you tend to blame your failings in Magic on variance while attributing successes to skill, you'll never become a good player. That's because your player mentality is defined by your sense of entitlement to win and not by your willingness to improve.

Frankly amazing what happens when you just take a moment, as an outside party, before jumping onto something like this. Glad it appears to have been resolved. Shame on those of you unable to hold it together more than 15 minutes.

First test run of the Kwia shell this evening, thanks to @chronomagistrate.bsky.social @badatgender.bsky.social and new friend Jo. Hit a Soul's Attendant engine early and then was able to neatly follow up with Well, Kwia and then PL. Definitely helped by the more creature driven decks at the table.

Creature — Human Cleric
Whenever another creature enters, you may gain 1 life.

Whenever you gain life, create a colorless artifact token named Lotus with “{T}, Sacrifice this token: Add three mana of any one color.” This ability triggers only once each turn.

Enchantment
If an effect would create one or more tokens under your control, it creates twice that many of those tokens instead.

Prominent community members not being gatekeeping arseholes challenge. Apparently impossible. You can have your opinions, you're entitled to them, just stop presenting them as fact. Just because you're not interested in a card doesn't mean other people shouldn't be.

The arguments that *any* design is lazy are so clearly from people who have never ever tried to make a set (which I get is a niche group). This card is fine, it has narrative and mechanical value and tells an incredible story especially next to Jace. Besides, Tam will show up in the future.

The Reality Fracture commander precon is simultaneously the worst "out-of-the-box" deck we've had for ages, and also absolutely brilliant to the point where I - who doesn't buy a precon, pretty much ever - has immediately ordered a copy.

Descent into Avernus is actually bad for most Commander games because it speeds up the game clock too much and removes player agency. Players have to focus on too many variables and it takes away from the overall experience of "doing the thing." "Then Bob played Descent" is not a memorable story.

Loot, the Anomaly looks like a card that's super novel for a couple of months, and then, it's going to end up feeling much of the same every time someone plays it. A large number of the highest impact cards are also very old with almost no reprints, everyone will think they're "playing jank".

I've spent the last 9 months really digging into how cards are costed based on its effects. Everything I've learned tells me that this - if it contains blue at all - is 3GGU. Frankly, this entire card is possible in green, though they consider flying not a green effect. So, I repeat... WHAT?!

City and their fans are suddenly finding out (after years of them getting away with it), that their actions actually have consequences. Though it's also apparent that now Guardiola isn't about, the officials appear to suddenly be capable of punishing City.

Solid first showing from Vraska tonight, but not much in terms of new information learned. Still need to decide whether I want to be artifact dense, or instant/sorcery dense, and how to ultimately distinguish it from a Kykar deck. However, there is potential for something I will enjoy playing.

Lost last night's game in perhaps the most unique way I've ever lost. Managed to go from 5 to 23 Sauron, Lord of the Rings commander damage through a Teferi's Protection, because the Rubinia Soulsinger player granted the Sauron player an extra turn with a gifted Perch Protection! Just wild stuff.
Teferi's Protection 2W
Instant
Until your next turn, your life total can’t change and you gain protection from everything. All permanents you control phase out. (While they’re phased out, they’re treated as though they don’t exist. They phase in before you untap during your untap step.)
Exile Teferi’s Protection.Sauron, Lord of the Rings 5UBR
Legendary Creature — Avatar Horror
When you cast this spell, amass Orcs 5, mill five cards, then return a creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Trample
Whenever a commander an opponent controls dies, the Ring tempts you.
9/9Perch Protection 4WW
Instant
Gift an extra turn (You may promise an opponent a gift as you cast this spell. If you do, they take an extra turn after this one.)
Create four 2/2 blue Bird creature tokens with flying. If the gift was promised, all permanents you control phase out, and until your next turn, your life total can’t change and you gain protection from everything.
Exile Perch Protection.

Troll Trader Cards (once one of the best non-CM stores for Magic singles) have done an update of their site. And it's absolutely shit. And that's before you realise that it's wiped all the old accounts (order history, store credit, etc), without a single notification that this would be occuring.

Goodness, it's so interesting getting to talk to articulate, intelligent people about Magic. People who may have a different approach or reason why they play, what motivates them, but are still prepared to engage and discuss. It's especially good when it's someone who you play with regularly...

Requoting this point because it's a tangent to my main opinions. I think "Produced Content" is the single worst thing to happen to the quality of local EDH game. Yes, this includes *some* livestreams. It's EDH in essence, but it's manufactured, not organic, and it's terrible to emulate at the LGS.
110
cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Depends on what your local meta is driven by? If it's driven by people trying to emulate "content", then yes, playing in that meta often will make you a worse player, a worse deckbuilder. Or if you're new, will hinder your ability to learn and improve. Although playing ONLY EDH will do that too.

"We should give newer players space to tread the same paths we've already been down." Perfectly said, the whole discourse around "people build popular commanders because they lack creativity" really gave me the ick. It felt like people pulling the ladder up behind them to feel superior.
