Raising an unmasked autistic kid sounds daunting, but it truly comes down to letting small things go. Many parents would say, "Why are you sitting like that? Don't mess up the couch!". In reality, the cushion is providing sensory input & comfort to my child - I sat the same way when I was little.

You could be the best parent for your autistic child, and the 'feelings of not being good enough or failing as a parent' still creep in. My kids are all happy, healthy & have friends, but I still get those nagging feelings. It's so real.

Lamps are where it's at! So much more control over the lighting situation. Our house was built in the 70s, but the people before us loved entertaining, so they remodeled the entire 1st floor about 25 years ago. Definite win for us haha!

There is a fine line between advocating for your autistic child and coddling them. At the same time, pressuring an autistic to make too many changes simultaneously or too quickly is equally damaging. This is why parenting autistic kids is so challenging - it's a constant balancing act.
