We (girls) didn’t do anything too harmful to others but we did try to make our own alcohol by squeezing rowanberry juice and leaving it for a while to ferment 🤣

Every episode is 1 hour long and reflects one hour of an ER shift - from 7am to 9pm (ish?) - so the pace of storytelling is ‘real time’, which definitely adds to the immersive nature of it, can’t look away (except when there’s blood because squeamish 😂)

I watched ER growing up - haven’t missed an episode. So this new show on Max fully has a grip on me. Noah Wyle is back like he never left, the storytelling is immaculate.

Now that we’re safely back, I can complain. The messiest air travel experience I’ve had in my entire life this past week. Two overnight stays in Miami against my will, fuel leak on our plane, the CBP agent on the ‘express lane’ making 5-minute small talk with every person…

We are visiting in-laws. Took a sunset walk, saw a bat. 10 minutes later… No one: … My husband: So I’m reading a research paper on bat sightings in this region….

This is an interesting finding: people who use AI a lot can identify when AI has been used by others. So, if you're a college professor, time to start really playing with these models.

People who frequently use ChatGPT for writing tasks are accurate and robust detectors of AI-generated text
In this paper, we study how well humans can detect text generated by commercial LLMs (GPT-4o, Claude, o1). We hire annotators to read 300 non-fiction English articles, label them as either…

Amazing things unfolding on LinkedIn. Avinash Kaushik penned an ‘A/B testing is dead’ essay with some valid points but a very narrow definition of A/B testing as CRO, Ronny penned a debunk amply peppered with ‘that’s not been my personal experience’…

Even for experienced folks coming of grad school, a lot of US employers don’t care about your exp abroad. I came here with 6 years of exp and having done World Champs and gotten one masters already - my first job post US masters was a minimum wage job at ICC organization committee

I would rather the entirely of billing switches to the new system. Stitching data from different systems for a unified ARR number is a special kind of hell.

It is only Jan 3 and a stakeholder is already trying to pitch me on shifting only a tiny little portion of our billing to a stripe competitor that doesn’t even have a stitch or a fivetran connector. Nuh uh, the roadmap has been printed and laminated and sent to the board with a carrier pigeon 😭😭😭

None of the work stuff made the top highlights, but there were some fun things I’d done there too 🤑 designing and conducting a willingness to pay study 📈 designing and rolling out an end-to-end growth model 📊 getting some traction with lightweight WBR/MBR prototypes 💸 getting rid of Looker 😂

1. Because public schools are underfunded and teachers spend out of their own pocket on kids. 2. Because we love and appreciate our teachers? I lived in Russia before and giving teachers non-monetary gifts was also common (candy, flowers). $5 limit applies to that too fwiw.
010
Elena Dyachkova @elenarunsnyc.bsky.social · 22/12/2024
And also fwiw class parents usually pool money from all parents in the class and give the teachers one combined gift card which basically eliminates the risk of if skewing grading

I think that $5 is an absolutely laughable amount with current prices. I know for an absolute fact that our teachers spend more on our child out of their own pockets
