I imagine most IT and HR departments will just ban the bloody things, the risks are too high not to.

Always interesting to see if episodic games are better played episodically or monolithically, especially since the reasons for the being episodic are often production rather than gameplay or narrative. (Haven't played this, but everything Stephen has posted about it sounds like a hard recommend)

I regret looking forward to this. It's complete arse gravy, apparently written by some political biographer who doesn't have a clue about education or AI, and should have been politely asked to write about something else. The only plausible explanation for publishing this is to humiliate the author

A classic case of "forget that it's AI for a moment" working wonders - "we've made a piece of hacking software and it hacked a system we didn't mean it to" is so transparently human error.

*weary voice* AI agents are not "going rogue". They are doing what they're told to do by humans who are not thinking hard enough about the guardrails and restrictions they explicitly need to set for the agents.

I suspect for a lot of people adding air-air and leaving the boiler for hot water and cold snaps would work fine, especially with a tankless system

Neil Young @elderpegasus.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
Certainly should be an option by default; there is a logic to air-to-water, as it plugs into existing houses better (IE, you can't just replace a boiler with it), but we just need All The Options to suit people's needs and budgets.

agree with this post in general, but also, heat pump subsidies are not supposed to be redistributive, they are supposed to incentivise switching to heat pumps! it is a *good thing* if people take them up, regardless of whether they’re well off or not, and making them affordable to all requires scale

Oh, and the utterly ludicrous "artistic licence" (AKA unrealistic bullshit) over conventional explosives has now extended to nuclear devices and the science around them. I know they can't tell you how to make a nuke, but that doesn't mean they have to talk complete bollocks the whole time!

Something has gone horribly wrong with the BBC/S4C’s subtitles on iPlayer. Seems there’s the proper ones and some perhaps AI-generated ones at the same time.
Photo of a TV screen with two sets of subtitles, one nonsense and one correct.

Seems likely. Suspect it will be an area where misused LLMs do real damage for a few years - even unlocalised subtitles are a lot of work, but are so important, so it's sooooo tempting to let the magic mechanical turk do it...

Quite. The only valid arguments for policing how people interact with AIs are to avoid impacts on people (either via bad habits, training the AI to be abusive, or humans reviewing inputs to AIs), so if you're not also worrying about how people treat people, it's literally meaningless.

This is a truly grotesque "trial" of a vaccine known to be safe and effective. It will in practice randomly withhold that treatment from a percentage of children to see what happens. It is absolutely the reverse of good practice.

TV *eats plot*. It just absolutely devours it. The sheer amount of story you need to fill even six hours is absurd. It doesn't feel like it as a viewer (if they've done it right) but once you've seen it through the other side of the process...oh boy.

This just feels completely broken. If inspecting schools is broadly bad for mental health of staff, that's probably not an issue with the inspection, it's a knock on of other issues like long term lack of funding. So why keep blaming Ofsted?
