Starmer's appearance on the Football Clichés pod to discuss his 3 niche fascinations with football which were: watching football, playing football, and goals made this very clear

And one of the two Norwegians you mention *did* opt out of the Norwegian system so he could be exploited by Real Madrid when he was a child!!

My understanding is that different models have different approaches to this, but if there's more than one shot in the same phase of play, they use the shot with the highest xG value

its funny/interesting that the list cuts off at 5mil population, but the 5 actually largest by area sub-divisions are all under that amount (Western Australia, bits of Siberia, Greenland)

Funnily enough I watched Black Bag yesterday and had the same thoughts about the housing situation. The decor of the lead couple's place was just wrong too - they had a modern glassy extension downstairs and a twee Art Nouveau-y bedroom

My tepid take would be that there are no bad cities, only bad visitors. Go somewhere with an open mind and you'll find plenty of stuff to enjoy which is why hundreds of thousands of people live there! Caveat by saying I've never been to a car-blighted middle American city which might test this take

Have to say it's totally joyless but I agree with the suits. You just cannot let a team do what Senegal did with no consequence! Nobody even got a yellow card from their team for walking off the pitch for 20 mins

My understanding is that it's nothing to do with the interaction of charcoal and alcohol - when your body processes alcohol, it produces some toxins as a by-product and these are what can contribute to a hangover, particularly the nausea, and the charcoal binds to these

...and if it turns out it's overbuilt for an AI bubble then - oops we have a lot of spare data tech and capacity and we built loads of energy generation, that will make it cheaper for us all anyway!

Alex D @eldenvo.bsky.social · 18/12/2025
Yeah very with you that the panic just a bit "... okay?" Yes we need a lot of data centres because everyone uses the internet and cloud storage and AI. It uses a lot of electricity but so does a lot of infra and we're generating ever more clean energy. The companies aren't building this for a laugh

My gentle suggestion is if I can tell when I have crossed a local authority boundary because suddenly you can't do things like 'geolock when Lime bikes stop', maybe spare the rest of us from the idea that you should be part of a a Manchester-style combined authority model for London.

Fascinated by the very shit MetaAI suggested questions to follow up random bits of Facebook content, and the output is totally useless. What is this for? Why have they embedded it in the app if it doesn't work?

Would have been gutted to see a 40yo Ravi Bopara score a ton for the underdog in a 14 over game and it be for nothing. Thankfully... amazing

Yeah for sure, seemed destined for LL to win it that year, when he'd also started making it big for England. That runout feels like the sliding doors moment that meant he never really kicked on to be the world superstar he might have

fundamentally the problem is that if you think "hotels are where I stay on holiday and I like being on holiday so living in a hotel must be fun and it's not fair others get to do it and not me" then you have the intellectual reasoning of a little child and it's going to be hard to engage with you
