Squarespace might work. I'll take a look. GitHub requires an enterprise account for any protected access sections at $20/user/month to the best I can tell which isn't doable.

Anyone have any suggestions for website hosting that's non-profit friendly? Serving very light html, ideally with sections that would be login protected for limited access.

While regulations.gov incorrectly lists this action as "closed for comments", you can submit your comments directly here: www.regulations.gov/commenton/OM... My response is below, but don't feel that you need to draft anything nearly so long-winded. A short statement will also be very helpful.
For the better part of a century, US science has been the envy of the world, propelled by Eisenhower-era
investment in every level of research and education, up through and including the American research
university system. The best and brightest from around the world have come to the United States to study and
work. Some stayed, bringing their exceptional talent here; others returned home, often carrying with them
professional norms, institutional ties, and democratic ideals encountered in the United States, a process that
has been a critical form of US soft power for many decades. This vibrant ecosystem of science, technology,
engineering, and medicine has led the US through its transformation from a manufacturing economy to a
technology and information economy, and ensured US prosperity and economic power up to the present day.
Our funding agencies have not only promoted the technological discoveries and medical breakthroughs that
transform our world and extend our lives, but also have been instrumental in developing the human capital
that flows into our commercial science and technology sector and generates the growth and innovation that
has given US businesses a worldwide competitive advantage.
These proposed changes to the Regulations for Federal Financial Assistance undercut all of this. By
transferring decision-making authority from scientific experts to political appointees in the grantmaking
process, we lose the competitive edge and innovative capacity provided by the most eHective research
funding system in history. The numerous provisions allowing administrators to exclude individuals and
institutions based on political litmus tests serve to squander the diverse talent available in this country,
undermine basic principles of free speech, and run counter to the very ethos of science as described by
Robert Merton in 1942.
Science costs money, and scientific research is planned out on the scale of years. When any grant can be
terminated at any time for any …

Of all the harm this administration has done to US science, today's proposed changes to the way federal grants are awarded and administered is the most damaging yet. The text of the federal register document is impenetrably tedious by design, so here's an excellent summary of what it says.

Excellent interrogation of cognition in response to different media. It resonates with student engagement at different levels of education. Higher ed faculty tend to comment that students "just don't know as much as they used to". It's more the way they grapple with understanding new content.

At least, we should keep the goal in mind as we use other tools to do some of that work. What is the goal of mathematics? What is mathematics? Solving problems and computing things for sure, but why and for whom? And who gets to do these things in the 'new paradigm'?

Extrusion is a nice metaphor. LLMs and other AIML tools are doing better and better work following the shapes and curves of what we think of as proof, writing, movie-making, coding, and most any other task, but maybe we should give some thought to what those things are and what their purpose is?

E6-local systems from cubic threefolds
Thomas Krämer, Daniel Litt, Marco Maculan
We produce infinitely many local systems on (level covers of) the moduli space of smooth cubic threefolds, with algebraic monodromy group equal to the exceptional group E6. These local systems arise in the middle cohomology of abelian étale covers of the Fano scheme parametrizing lines in the universal cubic threefold.Real points of the Fano surface of lines on the Fermat cubic.

It gets lost in these discussions that technically, FY26 didn't really begin until the first CR was passed in Nov 2025, and that those funds were never available to fund projects. FY26 funds were not set until January 2026, and full budget authority was not available to NSF until mid-April, 2026.
