Okay so Male Fantasies is a 1977 book written by Klaus Theweleit, a sociologist who grew up in post-war Germany grappling with the male culture of his parents and grandparents, essentially, and how it led to the Freikorps and eventually the Nazis.

That's Tomino's inexplicable superpower. Back in the early days of digital animation, he directed King Gainer at the same time and at the same studio as Gundam Seed. You'd never believe it looking at them.

What a butchering of the original title. In Japanese, this is ワキでもだえる女たち (waki de modaeru onna-tachi). First of all, it's "Women" (onna-tachi), not "Girls." And while they are anguished/agonizing (modaeru), the title cut out "waki" meaning "armpit." This is an armpit fetish vid. Bury the lede much?

This isn't a continuity error because Xavier got the cheap Shi'ar data crystals and the mind backups are thus prone to corruption.

My niece likes to watch a Spidey cartoon where Peter, Miles and Gwen are all six-year-old spiderpeople. Aunt May is his single guardian and I can't help wondering how this kid got his uncle killed.

I don't see how you can go back to writing regular X comics about Cyclops or Storm taking their team to beat up this month's bad guy after the end of this era, though.

I love how galaxy-brained the Krakoa stuff is. I can see a few potential issues with this system of government.

Lol no, I had some weird brain error and thought you were talking about Castlevania II, even thought the subtitle is completely different. My bad.

It's an ambitious game that wasn't satisfied with just repeating the first one and was an inspiration to the masterpiece that is Order of Ecclesia. Absolutely no fun to play, unfortunately.

These aren't Sara's own clothes and I desperately want to know who in the Titans picked them for her. You might want to say Scirocco, but they make Sara think of being a regular girl and that's not what he'd want at all.

Xavier does a lot worse in the Claremont run, but this is such a personally appalling scene. Just really putting Scott in his place for daring to respectfully question him in private.
Xavier tells Scott to notify Wolverine he's earned ten demerits.Scott respectfully tells him Wolverine's going to care about demerits and that he's not going to succeed if he treats grown adults like Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Storm like teenagers. Xavier throws a passive-aggressive hissy fit and calls Scott a bad leader.

Strange World has a scene where the hero gives his hidebound dad and grandpa a barely disguised lecture about how superior this film is to the old ones for not having a villain. I wanted Maleficent to show up in dragon form and eat that twerp so bad.

I know tpwrtrmnky detests it, but its demons are an interesting response to the anti-orcfic argument. It concedes that creatures that have families, language, culture can't be totally evil, and then creates a species that lacks all that. Of course, they thus can't work as a stand-in for real people.

Did you ever watch Frieren? If so, how do you feel about it? It's got ontologically evil demons that sometimes try to sell themselves as misunderstood.

Goes to show that broader social trends explain only so much, even in highly commercial art like comic books. The X books are ultra progressive under Reagan and become more conservative as the Cold War ends and the more moderate Bush Sr becomes president.

The 90s repatriarchalization of the X-Men is depressing, isn't it? Xavier comes back from space, Storm gets demoted from the big boss to one of two team leaders, the bisexual anarchists of the New Mutants lose all the girls and become Cable's good soldiers...

First page that makes me want to finish reading this event. Jon Bogdanove is good.
Art by Jon Bogdanove. Hodge looks far more grotesque than under Liefeld and is carrying around a cardboard cutout of a men's suit under his head, doing a terrible job of hiding the fact that he's just a dismembered head bolted to tubes. He's talking to Genosha's female head of state, who looks like Ronald Reagan.

This is the same stupid-looking kick Betsy did before, but there isn't even fanservice here to justify it. Why would you kick someone like that? It's going to be weak and you'll fall on your ass.
Rahne performs a kick where she's jumped straight up, has her left leg tucked to the side and is kicking someone with her right one.

Girard Spriggan @eijaksa.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Look at this visual storytelling. Where's Hodge's hand-tentacle? What does Rahne actually do to disrupt the process?
Rahne does something to stop Hodge from stealing Warlock's power, but it is isn't apparent from the art at all.

It's 1990, Jim Lee is the regular penciler and every drawing of a woman is a pin-up now. Would that he was horny, like Claremont was writing all those times the villain tried to make Storm his wife with mind control. Alas, I don't think he believed in Natasha's crotch flash kick for a second.
Rogue having half-naked sexy adventures in the Savage Land.Black Widow performs a bizarre kick that gives the audience an unrestricted view of her crotch.

90% of these takes are about Batman, which is funny because DC already did that story. It's called Batman: White Knight and it's about Joker getting his meds in order and becoming a progressive community organizer.

Belasco from the same run. Sadistic and clever, but a basically mediocre man whose grand villainous plot fizzles out. However, the abuse he inflicts on Illyana is something that fundamentally changes her and something she will have to deal with for the rest of her life.

Issue #263 is drawn by Bill Jaaska, who was likely of Finnish descent. He worked on some major series in the 80s and 90s, including some issues of Hulk with Peter David, but for whatever reason left the industry and died poor in 2009. He drew a mean tentacle monster Jean Grey.
Jean Grey has a massive amount of tentacles where her arms should be. Uncanny X-Men #263.

After all the demigods, maybe it's fun to have a telepath who sucks. We've moved on from the gentleman pervert brand of horniness to something far more crass. Not that preteen me disliked all those drawings of Psylocke's ass.
Betsy get surprised by an ordinary human kicking her in the face from the front, despite allegedly being a telepath and a ninja.

I also discovered I had misunderstood her backstory. I thought the mall where she lived before her superhero career was in Australia rather than California and always imagined her speaking with an Australian accent. Disappointing.

Intolerance is a surprisingly big part of Jubilee's early characterization. She also cracks what I think is the run's only transphobic joke back in Australia. What did Claremont know about Gen X?
Jubilee has a tantrum and says some xenophobic stuff about the local food in Hong Kong.

Not really a fan of the Australia phase in retrospect. The idea was to fake their deaths and become a more proactive strike force, but I can't help but notice they did not do a whole lot of proactive striking. They did traumatize a lot of loved ones by pretending to be dead, though.

One fun realization I've had is that all the telepaths are evil liars.
Alex suggests that Betsy could have simply read his mind instead of checking up on him in person. Betsy says she doesn't do that to a friend.Betsy says she wouldn't do that even to an enemy without cause and is dismayed Alex would think that of her.Betsy kisses Alex and admits she mentally manipulated the rest of the X-Men into walking through the Siege Perilous, which as far as she knows either kills your personality or just outright kills you.

Aside from the filth that spews out of Kitty Pryde's mouth, the curses in these books have been minced stuff like "cow" and "Hades" and whatnot. It feels a little shocking to see someone casually just call Polaris a slut.
An old seaman is fixing Lorna Dane's wounds in a bar. The other patrons are gossiping about her, one saying she's dressed like a slut.
