Buried in the regime's political takeover letter of the Smithsonian is the worst bit. Unlike exhibits, which are non-destructive towards primary materials, temporary in nature, and reversible, the foundational collections are irreplacable. They want to be able to throw stuff out.

just saw that an @npr.org podcast i interviewed for about queer nature is the first thing on the administration’s list attempting to justify defunding NPR & PBS. there are thousands of species that are intersex (etc.) & ppl afraid of these scientific facts simply shouldn’t be running our nation.

I’ve seen a bunch of smug takes lately about “welll you shouldn’t have relied on social media, you fools.” But where is the alternative? We’ve disinvested from science education, from science journalism, and it’s good, actually, for independent people trying to make the world better to be supported.

I made more art this year than I have in over a decade, and looking back it’s fun to see where some unexpected turns took me: in particular, a 2’x4’ painting of a giant red tentacled monster attacking the International Space Station inspired by a conversation with NASA astronaut Don Pettit
Five paintings on a wall: Top L->R: Everglades wetland, a field of rudbeckia flowers, a Georgia marshland, a sunset over the Atlantic, and an unexpected space monster attacking the international space station A collection of postcards featuring different landscapes from Montana and South Dakota. Plus spaces on the back for writing and postage A blue painting of a coelacanth’s skeletonEmily holding a painting of a pollinating fly, in front of larger paintings of pink flowers and big purple ants
