Having grown up in Wales, I can testify that if you are actually worried about your culture and history being under threat, the thing to do is write poetry and songs, perform plays, tell stories and organise festivals, not just sit around whining.

Vote early and in person, folks. If you're in a "vote by mail" state and can deliver your mail-in vote directly rather than relying on USPS this year, do it. Otherwise get it into the mail at the earliest possible date. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

The Postal Service is slowing delivery. Will your mail ballot be affected?
Democracy Docket mapped the affected zip codes.

#chessTactics puzzle time! White just captured the pawn on d5 and is now ahead by a pawn with black to move. (Spoilers ahead in thread, pause here if you want to work it out yourself)
A chess position. White is ahead by a pawn but there is a lot of tension in the center. Black to move.

And when the dust settles, we are up a bishop. #chess #chessTactics

@egyp7 @egyp7.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
The other option, capturing with the queen, *does* threaten something new: Qxb2# Now white has to react to the greater threat of checkmate while the bishop is still hanging .

@egyp7 @egyp7.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Capturing c6 with the bishop doesn't threaten anything new, so white's bishop has time to run to safety

@egyp7 @egyp7.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
But wait! White has an in-between check, Nxc6+, and now we have to get out of check. The options for getting of out of any check are: move the king, block the attacker (which you can't do when it's a knight), or capture it. Moving the king just leaves us down a piece so that doesn't help.

@egyp7 @egyp7.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
If the bishop moves away from the pawn's threat, the knight on d5 is toast because we still have 3 attackers.
100
@egyp7 @egyp7.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
This accomplishes two things: it threatens the bishop and blocks it from defending the knight.

@egyp7 @egyp7.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
In bloodbath sequences like this, look for moves that can change the calculation. Oftentimes a different capture order can come out better or an in-between move can add an attacker. In this case we can remove a defender by pushing the e pawn. This accomplishes two things

@egyp7 @egyp7.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
We have 3 pieces pointed at it and white has 3 pieces defending. If we capture knight with knight, bishop with bishop, and queen with queen, it all comes out even and we go into an endgame down a pawn. White's passed c pawn will be a decisive advantage, so a straight up trade isn't good for black.

@egyp7 @egyp7.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Always look for forcing moves in descending order: checks, captures, threats. We don't have any checks here because the white king is protected by a wall of pawns. The only thing we can capture is the knight on d5 and we have a few options there
The same position as the previous post

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge.As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

The US criminal justice system is not designed to prevent crime or even to punish the guilty. It's objectively, quantifiably, not very good at either of those things🤷🏿‍♂️ It is designed to arrest, convict, and incarcerate, large numbers of innocent, poor, Black, men. It is the best in the world at that

these are not “autonomous” attacks: they are failures by humans to implement appropriate controls for the computers acting on their behalf, and we must not forget it.

the question "can computers drive?" is vastly superior to "can computers think?" because it disarms all the dorm room bullshit and reduces the question to its pragmatic implications, while also revealing that the underlying problem is one of vocabulary rather than anything metaphysical

I’ll take this a step further and say, I believe we should be able to support an average-sized family on a single income at what we determine to be the minimum wage. A lot of Boomers got this. But for whatever reason, we’re considered ridiculous for proposing it.

My concern is not that AI will become so superduper that it decides to kill all humans. My concern is that the existing humans with all the power and money will use AI to continue making the world worse for everyone.

They see a lot of the weird-shit admin access their bots are being granted. I'm guessing they don't find it implausible that the existing mechanisms and institutions for doing a variety of damage could be deployed by those bots to great effect.
