We're being told our planet is on fire. People are dying in the tens of thousands. But yet, the media show us pictures of harmless fun. This visual disconnect is numbing the public to the urgency we face.

I get your point on the housing issue. Did young voters blame the Ford government in Ontario, though? Provinces have more constitutional responsibilities for housing matters than does Canada. Perhaps the CPC did a better job of running with the the issue than did the opposition parties in Ontario.

Your preferred option is good. "Family-sized homes": define. I don't see that the developers and builders have enough incentive to produce smaller three-bedroom houses and three-bedroom apartments (perhaps an expert would kindly correct me). Missing middle scale development needs to be facilitated.

I believe that wild pendulum swings in government policy are bad. Much better governance comes from moderate adjustments, disjointed incrementalism if you will. I don't believe that majority of Canadians is looking for a revolution. ("when you talk about destruction...you can count ME out")

Anyway, let people like Danielle Smith and Preston Manning expose themselves for what they are: selfish, petty pro-MAGA ideologues, more interested in pursuing a narrow vision that sees Alberta as little more than the oil industry. Most Albertans are better than that.
