The inhumanity of Toronto winters was formative for me in a way I can't really explain. It made indoor space feel special somehow

I feel like there's a cohort of us who got on the internet before "social media" and made all sorts of healthy friendships through forums or livejournal or what have you and thus, while everyone's like SOCIAL MEDIA FUELS COMPARISON AND MISERY we're like, but that's just where my friends live.

Fantastic and heartbreaking piece “James had been expressing the difficulty of capturing trans experience in language that might help cis folks better understand us: “So that people don’t have to be afraid of us and hate us and treat us badly the way they do.””

Today's the feast of St Jerome, 4th Century theologian, translator and one of the Four Latin Doctors. Here he is on the screen at Cawston, Norfolk wearing his cardinal's hat and carrying his works. He appears on 18 medieval rood screens or pulpits in Norfolk, often on the doors.

It is theologically crucial that we pay attention to who can speak, who can't speak, and what that says about our commitments. scmpress.hymnsam.co.uk/blog/speech-...
I am convinced that we cannot speak well about gender and sexuality in the Church, and that the Church cannot respond with a prophetic and Christian voice to the increasingly damaging national discourse about trans people, until we recognize epistemic injustice for what it is – an aspect of the fallen condition of humanity that the Church is duty bound to set its face against. When beloved children of God face both interpersonal and institutional violence while being denied the ability to meaningfully participate in society and Church, the Church remains complicit in violence and exclusion.

'Christ is incarnate in solidarity with the worst things that can happen to our flesh. This means contemplating the mystery that our pain and shame is an ikon of the crucifixion and resurrection. It means being intimate with horror, with the things which make us cringe away lest they happen to us.'

It is not a new thought that the bodies of the poor and oppressed are the body of Christ, but I invite you to consider: poz blood is the blood of Christ. The blood people fear and revile is that which we hold most sacred, the material of being itself. open.substack.com/pub/egnlafle...
