The red circle is campus, the yellow circle is the bit where somewhere between 20-25% of the local populace is under wildfire evacuation warnings or mandates (me included, writing from a hotel room), including sections of land that directly abut campus. But sure let's have class tomorrow. #GoPack

I'm planning on doing some traveling soon so I applied for an airline credit card and along with "teacher/professor" my employment options were arms/ammunition dealer, cigarettes distributor, liquor store owner, pawn broker, and senior political figure. I'm SO exited to meet my new friends.

Taking the rabbit-duck illusion to its logical conclusion.
Single-panel cartoon by the brilliant Paul Noth, first published in the New Yorker in May 2026. The cartoon depicts an open casket funeral. The coffin is bedecked with flowers. Inside it lies the deceased, dressed smartly in a suit and tie. His head, laying on a pillow, looks remarkably like the rabbit-duck illusion, an ambiguous figure that is famous in philosophy for highlighting distinctions between perception and interpretation. The coffin is flanked on either side by two grieving individuals wearing widow's veils and holding handkerchiefs. One widow (left) is a duck, the other (right) is a rabbit.

An international team with English, French, Spanish, and German scientists are working on a cloaking device that renders the wearer invisible. They try it on a grad student who asks "Can you see me?!" The scientists reply "Yes" "Oui" "Si" "Ja". I'll show myself out.
