Is a water simulation wet? And the issue is not one of abstract “modeling,” it is on the theoretical limits of computers as a technology. It’s as controversial as saying consciousness could be modeled by levers and pulleys. Not because god couldn’t do it, but because it’s a different system.

No shot is from a woman’s perspective, no women are allowed to talk about anything but masculinity, men, sex, suffering, or romance. In that environment, it takes a LOT of work to argue the movie is really secretly feminist or anything like that. See ya around.

She a chance to say “yes, I hate you,” to his question, and instead they have her say “well, i’ve never tried it, because that’s not me.” No woman in the movie saves herself, all women in the movie are charitable and doting on Bear, and the movie plays into a ton of adolescent male sexual anxiety.

If that's the argument than we'll need some evidence. Even Real Nikki, who is undoubtedly the victim of Bear's worst offenses, doesn't express any resentment, fear, or hatred of Bear. But if I were to agree with you, the movie's misogyny doesn't hinge on the "villain" question.

I don't think we can say "the movie knows bear is the villain" without adhering close to the text. He's not treated remotely the way "villains" in horrors are. He's treated like a victim who who is too reluctant to seek outside help, like lots of horror protagonists.

Wholeheartedly agree. It fails really basic stuff! I know a lot of people saying Bear is an incel or an out-and-out villain, and that’s just not in the text. All you have to do is look at the director’s other work.
