Just a snippet I'm proud of (fresh off the press, written two minutes ago). #amwriting #wip #writersofbluesky
An excerpt from a fanfic Ruthanne is writing.

I pace, barely seeing this place. It’s painted white, with pops of color here and there—modern art that manages to look like a splattered body, maybe dropped from the roof of this place. The windows overlook Central Park, which isn’t something I would have expected.
It’s beautiful. Peaceful. Something… old stirs in me, something I haven’t even acknowledged in so many years. Watching those leaves, the breeze making them dance; watching tree-shadows, swaying like breath. Watching people and pets walk through, talk and laugh, fish, run, do group yoga… just living life under those trees, in a place of oxygen and strength.

This is literally the setup that allowed Jim Crow to be a decades long racist regime of apartheid while modern moderates lament the lost comity of the Senate. This is literally a politics of white reconciliation which we’ve already seen.

Black text on white page that reads:

The sun may have set but the overnight heat is still dangerous.

Do not sleep in a sweltering room. If you’ve lost power or the heat is too much, we have opened up overnight cooling centers where you can spend the night safely.

Visit finder.nyc.gov/coolingcenters/ or call 311 to find an overnight location.

Call 911 immediately if you or someone you know shows signs of heat illness.

Check on your neighbors. We’ll only get through this heat wave together.

I don't care what the GOP thinks of masked protests. And I don't care if the Dems say masks are allowed because free speech, or not allowed because masked protests are scary. All I'm asking is that the answer not depend on the Blackness of the protesters. Next they'll ask for Black voter turnout🤷🏿‍♂️

For decades, the KKK marched and protested wearing masks, and Dem lawmakers said, "It's free speech! We have to let them talk!" Then for a few summers, some Black kids said, "We need a ceasefire in Palestine." And Dem lawmakers passed laws against masked protest.🤡 Now those Dems are quiet again.🤷🏿‍♂️

Remember that time a bunch of racists voted for Trump, and made the nonsense excuse that it was about "price of eggs?" Even though Black people are poor and don't have a secret egg plug, but somehow didn't vote for ethnic cleansing? But a bunch of Hispanic people voted to cleanse themselves?🤡

And people with degrees in things like "statistics" and "data science" keep pretending that "price of eggs 🤡" and "economic anxiety🤡" are real things or reasonable excuses for supporting an ethnic cleansing campaign? No one cares what the price of German eggs was in the months before World War 2.

The more "economic anxiety someone had," and the more they worried about being able to afford eggs, the more likely they were to vote for Harris. 🙂🙃 But we still keep pretending that the exact opposite is true.🤡 Because we don't want to accept that a lot of American voters are hateful and racist.

happy pride, any excuse to post my favorite poem
photograph of a poem. text:

Jesus at the Gay Bar
He's here in the midst of it -
right at the centre of the dance floor,
robes hitched up to His knees
to make it easy to spin.

At some point in the evening
a boy will touch the hem of His robe
and beg to be healed,
beg to be anything other than this;

and He will reach His arms out,
sweat-damp, and weary from dance.
He'll cup this boy's face in His hand and say,
my beautiful child
there is nothing in this heart of yours that ever needs to be healed.

Working roads are not "socialism." That's just a functional, working society. Kids not going hungry isn't socialism. That's just a functional, working society. I get not being used to that. But that's not socialism. Socialism is defined by the relationship between labor and its product.
