Public involvement in research is where our research is carried out ‘with’ or ‘by’ members of the public rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them. The goal is to influence the research in some way, compared to engagement activities, where the goal is to inform (talks, blogs, lab tours etc). #SystematicReviews represent the cornerstone of evidence-based research, yet they remain underutilised in preclinical research. Prof Malcolm Macleod is sharing with #ECRMC26 this morning why systematic reviews are essential before you embark on new research.
Photograph of Prof Malcolm Maclead giving a lecture at ECTMC26, in front of a large screen with a slide with the following text -
"What is a systematic review?
· A systematic review attempts to identify,
appraise and synthesize all the empirical
evidence that meets pre-specified eligibility
criteria to answer a given research question.
· Researchers conducting systematic reviews use
explicit methods aimed at minimizing bias, in
order to produce more reliable findings that can
be used to inform decision making.
