"Ukraine is losing the War": Sobering analysis of Russia's war against Ukraine by Owen Matthews, Associate Editor of The Spectator. My opinion: It's not too late for Europe to put global security (and their own survival) ahead of crass financial interests. spectator.com/article/ukra...
Excerpt from article by Owen Matthews in The Spectator, 7 September 2026, entitled "Ukraine is losing the war": "Perhaps the most important strategic crisis for Ukraine is a triple failure on the part of its European allies. First, the UK and Europe have talked up sanctions while in practice sending far more money to Moscow in payment for oil and gas than they have given Kyiv in military aid. Second, fear of escalation and prioritizing their own defense over Kyiv’s has prevented Europeans from sending offensive missiles (such as Germany’s Taurus) for use against Russian targets or from sharing their supplies of precious Patriot missile defense batteries. But the third and most serious failure is a refusal to countenance seriously engaging the Kremlin in peace talks, and a stubbornly fixed idea that encouraging Ukraine to fight and fight forever will somehow magically lead to victory." Pres Trump's Russia-aligned "28-point Peace Plan" from November proposed that "European fighter jets will be stationed in Poland." Why do you suppose that Russia would want all European fighter jets to be consolidated within Poland? Poland is #1 on Russia's menu. Only Ukraine stands in the way.
Point #9 from Pres Trump's Russia-aligned "28-point Peace Plan" from November 2025: "9. European fighter jets will be stationed in Poland."

Must-read article: “Trump behaves like he’s a Russian asset”. Guardian journalist Luke Harding is interviewed about his new book, "Betrayal: Trump, Putin and the New Age of Conquest". @mariaramirez.bsky.social @eldiario.es The article [in Spanish]: www.eldiario.es/internaciona...
Excerpt from elDiario.es article dated 31 August 2026, entitled "Luke Harding: “Trump behaves like he’s a Russian asset”. The excerpt quotes Luke Harding, translated from Spanish to English by Google Translate. The text of the excerpt shown in the image: "Trump proclaims that Latin America is his domain, that Europeans have no say there, that Greenland and Canada belong to him, and that Lake Ontario is now “Lake America.” Meanwhile, we have Russia, no longer a great power, but treated as if it were by Trump, promoting his imperial doctrine that Ukraine belongs to Russia and that Eastern Europe should once again become its sphere of influence. The astonishing thing is that they agree. In the book, I quote a speech by Putin that almost no one paid attention to, where he tells the Americans: “You keep Greenland, it’s yours; we’ll keep Ukraine.” It’s reminiscent of that 19th-century James Gillray cartoon of the great powers sitting at a table with knives and forks, carving a map of the world." Financial Times Editorial: "For most of this century, tech companies in the US have mostly been given a free pass to do what they want. ... But it is now becoming increasingly clear that public opinion, the US courts and Congress are turning against Big Tech." [Paywall] www.ft.com/content/105b...
Financial Times Editorial Board, 21 August 2026: “Rather than fighting rearguard court actions, tech companies would be best advised to heed the changing political and legal mood. They should redouble their efforts to run safer, privacy-preserving services that demonstrably serve the public interest as well as consumers’ needs. In their own self-interest, tech company shareholders, who have for so long discounted all regulatory concerns, should cajole them to do so.”

My opinion: President Trump won't approve a license for Ukraine to produce Patriot missiles because he is aligned with Russia. The claim that the US manufacturers oppose the license because Kyiv could produce the missiles at lower cost is absurd. Click here--> www.president.gov.ua/en/news/prez...

Polish PM Tusk said that they didn't shoot down a Russian missile, because there was "'no reason to think Poland was the intended target" and it was not headed for an inhabited area [in Poland]. Since the destruction would be in Ukraine, all was OK. @donald-tusk.bsky.social @polandmfa.bsky.social
The image contains a text box from live updates on The Guardian 30 July 2026: 'No reason to think Poland was the intended target for this missile,' PM Tusk says. Poland’s PM Tusk is now visiting the site of the incident, and says that two missiles violated Polish airspace during the night, but clarifies that the other one quickly crossed back into Ukraine. Later, defence minister Kosiniak-Kamysz clarified that only one missile crossed into Polish airspace. Tusk also confirms that early indications suggest the missile that crashed in rural Poland was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile, as reported earlier. But he stresses “there are no reasons to think Poland was the intended target for this missile.” He also says that the Polish air force was ready to shoot down the missile if it threatened an inhabited area. He says the US is interested in joining the investigation into the incident. 1/2 Boris Bondarev's brilliant Substack essay contrasts Christopher Nolan’s film "The Odyssey" with Russia's threat to the world. Mr. Bondarev is the Russian diplomat who resigned in protest over his government's invasion of Ukraine. Click here---> borisbondarev.substack.com/p/homer-and-us
The image contains a quote from Boris Bondarev's July 28, 2026 essay: "Western policy in Ukraine is the impotence of one who does not wish to act: it wants to help, but not for the sake of victory, and only in ways that will not bring serious trouble upon itself. Years pass, hundreds of thousands of lives are lost, hundreds of billions of dollars are spent, and the aggressor continues the war—because there is no objective of defeating him. Here the true meaning of an anti-war position is revealed. Are you against war? Then help to end it sooner—through victory over the aggressor, so that both he and everyone watching from the sidelines learn for the future that war ends badly for those who start it. Everything else—“negotiations at any price,” “do not provoke him,” “allow him to save face”—does not end wars but gives birth to new ones.”

The image contains a quote from Dr. Brook's 7 July 2025 Substack article: "On the matter how best to stop these transshipments, it’s not that complicated. No additional regulations are needed and there’s no need for further export controls. It’s simpler than that. All it takes is a few phone calls from senior people in government to the firms involved. That will stop these transshipments overnight and is more or less what happened in Poland and Lithuania, who both successfully ended this trade." Another fantastic film at the Washington DC International Film Festival last night: "The Negotiator", based on the true story of Italian intelligence officer Nicola Calipari's efforts to free a kidnapped journalist. The CIA is not shown in a favorable light. @filmfestdc.bsky.social #FilmFestDC
From FilmFestDC.org website: "The Negotiator" Il Nibbio Alessandro Tonda Italy, Belgium, 2025 108 minutes, Color The Negotiator creates such an edge-of-your-seat feeling that when you realize the film is based on actual people and events, the story hits even harder. Amid the bleak chaos of the Iraq war in 2005, an Italian journalist (Sonia Bergamasco) has just been kidnapped. Among other consequences, this interrupts veteran Italian secret service agent Nicola Calipari's (Claudio Santamaria) family skiing vacation. As Calipari lands in Baghdad, Alessandro Tonda masterfully captures the deep tension of the agent's attempts to navigate the intrigue and intricacies of finding hard-to-find people who may know other people who might be trusted to offer help—and every small step along the way comes with risk and worry. Negotiating not only with terrorists but with the smug American CIA, opportunistic Sunni separatists, and even with his own family, Calipari remains relentless. The Negotiator won Best Film Award at the 2025 Italian Golden Globes (Globi d'Oro).—Dave Nuttycombe In Italian, English, and Arabic with English subtitles

Maigret And The Dead Lover Maigret et le mort amoureux PASCAL BONITZER France, Belgium, 2025 80 minutes, Color Denis Podalydès is a fine addition to the many Detective Maigrets who have appeared onscreen and in novels since 1930. His Maigret is a man of precision. Director Pascal Bonitzer has set this latest adventure in early 2000s Paris, where the ever-cautious Chief Inspector (André Marcon) summons Maigret to investigate the murder of a renowned former ambassador. The scene of the crime poses more questions than answers. Likewise, longtime servant Jacotte (Anne Alvaro) seems to say less than she knows. But Maigret discovers a 50-year trove of love letters between the ambassador and a married princess (Dominique Reymond). In a twist, the noblewoman's husband has also just died, leaving the couple free to finally carry on their affair in the open—or even marry. The mysteries of so many secret lives that aren't entirely secret pile up until a thoroughly surprising resolution is revealed.—Dave Nuttycombe In French with English subtitles

Not only isn't the article "Free to Read", but I can't read it even though I paid $319 US for a subscription in January. FT deems some random articles to be "Premium". To read it, I would have to "pay now" $618.49 US, with my annual subscription rate to go up to $719 US. #Greed @financialtimes.com

Trump is a nihilist, explains David Brooks: "Day after day, the administration works to create a world where ruthless people can thrive. That means destroying any institution or arrangement that might check the strongman’s power." (Gift Link): Click here: www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

1) Democrats should announce that GOP landgrabs, sweetheart contracts & tax cuts that Republicans are giving to the 1%, will later be reversed with interest and -- if applicable -- penalties and criminal prosecution. 2) Announce boycotts from the floor of Congress against specific MAGA businesses.

GOP legislators & corporate CEOs believe that their coup is set in stone. Democrats must announce that Trump tax cuts for the 1%, contracts, land giveaways, etc, will all later be reversed, with interest, penalties, and criminal prosecutions. Their coup attempt will fail. @tribelaw.bsky.social

The US lost over 36,000 troops during the Korean War, fighting for Seoul's freedom. Three years ago, the US asked them to sell 155mm artillery rounds to Ukraine, but they refused so as not to upset Russia. Seoul needs to put its high-tech sector & arms industry to work on 3 shifts to help Ukraine.
Photo shows a South Korean government diagram of the Third Infiltration Tunnel, built by North Korea under the DMZ. In the event of an invasion by North Korea, it could transport 30,000 troops per hour with small arms. The tunnel was discovered in 1978 based on information provided by a North Korean who defected to the south. Four tunnels have been discovered, but there are believed to be many more which remain hidden. The diagram is located at the entrance to the third tunnel on the South Korean side, and is available for the public to photograph. My visit to the tunnel was in 2015, where I was able to walk through the tunnel to the now sealed end. Photographs within the tunnel are forbidden. Photo of diagram: Edward S. Solomon

Ukraine should be inducted into NATO at their summit on June 24-25. Secretary General Mark Rutte's tenure has so far been utterly uninspired. He needs to show that he is the leader of the preeminent global security alliance, not a mere concierge to the financial interests of its larger members.

Why is Wikipedia perpetuating the odious and discriminatory caste system? Outlawed in India 75 years ago, it classifies people into 5 main castes at birth, with Brahmins at the top and Dalits (Untouchables) at the bottom. @wikipedia.org @wikimediafoundation.org en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...
