eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.
Screenshot from a section of eBay UK's r User Privacy Notice.
It reads:
AI model training

When training, testing, and improving generative AI models, we rely primarily on publicly available data. Some public datasets may incidentally include personal data, and in some cases we may also use certain user personal data, such as information about your use of our Services, including the items you list, sell, view, or buy, where we determine it is necessary and proportionate for a specific use (for example, to train AI models that improve product recommendations). Prior to training, we take steps to mitigate potential privacy impacts, such as de-identifying the data or applying other privacy-preserving techniques. In some jurisdictions, the data used for training as described in this section is not considered personal data; where our AI training does involve personal data as defined under applicable law, including in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, the legal basis of our legitimate interest is set out in section 3.4.

See section 6 for more details on your rights. To learn more about specific training use cases and our processing of your personal data for generative AI training purposes, including the right to object to such processing for certain users, visit our Artificial Intelligence at eBay page.

The free drop off/pickup is fine if it’s dry. Always go to the paid drop off zone for a taxi home. It’s often easier and cheaper to get one there dropping folk off rather than the official rank. Just have to make sure they don’t charge the exit fee as they’ve already charged that to the drop.

My understanding is that the US doesn't need diesel. It's other countries' needs that are driving up global prices. US refiners make billions of excess profits charging US customers global prices. In fact we are a major exporter of diesel. So WTF? And what did he give Putin in return?

Trying to get my head around restaurants asking for a VAT cut to 10%. If that happens I assume they’ll keep prices the same but keep 10% more revenue. Customers won’t see a difference and the Exchequer receives less tax income. Am I wrong?

NEW Why holding a placard is a terrorist act, while causing disruption in a balaclava is not The mess caused by ministers and the police not taking terrorism law seriously By me at @prospectmagazine.co.uk www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/law/th...

Recent events in England now reveal the practical difference between terrorists and protesters. It would seem that terrorists peacefully hold placards and get immediately arrested, while protesters wear black uniforms and balaclavas and disrupt infrastructure and do not get arrested.

How did we get into this mess? How have we placed ourselves in the position where terrorism legislation is used to detain and prosecute peaceful protesters, while those adopting the terror tactics of private armies seem to be free to do as they wish?

The reason is that for some time British politicians have not taken terrorism legislation seriously, and that ministers have got into the habit of misusing terror laws for easy targets.

Pointless anyway as polling generally reflects a tight, near-even split; frequently fluctuating around a 50/50 or 51%–49% margin depending on how undecided voters are allocated. There is no consensus.
