🌍 World Earth Day 2026 - Our Power, Our Planet This year’s World Earth Day theme reminds us that protecting our planet is not driven by a single decision or moment. It is shaped by the collective actions of people, communities, and sectors every day. 1/5

📣 📣 Volunteer call! At EDIG, we believe that meaningful change in geoscience comes from people working together across disciplines, backgrounds, and experiences. As our community continues to grow, we are looking for new volunteers to help shape and deliver our next phase of activity. 1/3

Elsie MacGill was the first woman in the world to earn a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering (1929). The "Queen of the Hurricanes" was a pioneering Canadian aircraft designer who led production of the Hawker Hurricane fighter planes during #WWII. She was born #OTD in 1905. #WomenInSTEM
Black-and-white close-up portrait photograph of Elsie MacGill, the pioneering Canadian aeronautical engineer known as the “Queen of the Hurricanes.” Shown from the shoulders up, she has short, wavy light hair, wears thin round wire-rimmed glasses, and a light collared blouse under a darker jacket, looking slightly toward the camera with a calm, neutral expression against a plain studio background.

📣 In celebration of yesterday's International Women's Day, let us all take a moment to listen, reflect, and take action. International Women's Day is a moment to acknowledge the progress we have made, but also the barriers that shape careers, experiences, and connections in geology and beyond. 1/7

Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science!🔬🔭 This year's theme is: From vision to impact: Redefining STEM by closing the gender gap. In STEM we know that the number of women in academia decreases with increasing career stage. Geoscience is one of the least diverse fields of all. 1/5

Representation shapes how we see ourselves and how we see possibilities. In science and engineering, it remains essential. When people recognise themselves in a field, it builds inclusion, belonging, and the confidence to take part. 1/5

#Italy: We welcome the introduction of the crime of femicide – defined as the murder of a woman, motivated by gender – as a distinct law, following the Parliament's unanimous vote. This reflects meaningful progress in addressing discrimination against women and girls.

Do you use LinkedIn? Looking for input: Who do you connect with & why? As a general rule, I only connect with folks I have worked with or directly interacted with elsewhere. Otherwise, I just follow. Lately I am getting ++ invites from folks I don't know at all. Is this common in some circles?
