We also haven't reckoned with how little impact it has had at scale. LLMs have changed how the industry works, and yet the software I use every day is getting worse. This may change. I hope it does. But at some point we have to acknowledge the output isn't matching the perceived capabilities.

I like the first Control a lot, but it also had this problem with the mods. Easily the worst part of the game. It gives the impression that the devs couldn't figure out a way to have those buffs provide meaningful impact without breaking the game, so they just kind of neutered the whole system.

I mostly agree, but still think the conversation around coding has become stale on here. There are lots of interesting discussions to be had about how AI has or has not improved software as a whole, but lots of people seem content to say AI is good at coding (which is true) and leave it at that.

My only hope for all of this is that people don't conclude this type of response from people like Lorenz is due to the anti-AI backlash they are getting. It is due to their refusal to stop engaging with technology and platforms that are designed to push people towards right wing ideologies.

Maybe failure isn't the right word. The major figures that were brought on after Heath was let go have also moved on. And it doesn't seem like the org has reoriented itself in a way that will move us towards success. After all the changes, it just feels like none of it made a difference.
