This acrostic reads SQUIRREL. My previous dog was a good garden guard (and actual squirrel killer) and I feel his absence when I find black walnuts (which have lethal juglones) planted in my carefully juglone-free raised beds. Moles would be far more welcome.

RIP Anne Dillard. (Yeah, it's a lousy month so far) I loved her "A Pilgrim on Tinker Creek" as a teen and I have a tattered secondhand copy of it right in front of me. I also recommend finding her "Total Eclipse" essay which made me want to see a full solar eclipse. (My best so far is 87%)
