I love the persistence of these Common Darters, still around despite it being nearly mid-October #dragonflies

The beautiful Greater Knapweed flower in the treepit of the new tree in our street has been poisoned by West Sussex CC, who continue to spray glyphosate on #Worthing pavements. 😢 #pavementplants #wildflowers #banurbanglyphosate @lgspace.bsky.social

Before and after photos. The first was taken a week ago of pavement plants with Clouded Yellow butterfly (not in anyone’s way) - the second taken today after the West Sussex Council glyphosate spraying machine had been around. The dead plants will not be removed. #banglyphosate #pavementplants

Good to watch the powerful #guardianlive event tonight, with @naomiaklein.bsky.social and @astra.bsky.social talking about End Times Fascism. Glad they mentioned the UK government’s disgraceful treatment of peaceful climate activists and those protesting about genocide.

I haven’t been out in my kayak for a while but the light was so beautiful and the water so calm yesterday I headed out for a paddle. Didn’t see the bluefin tuna that have been seen around but it was lovely being on the water. #kayaking

WSCC haven’t sprayed this brilliant bristly ox-tongue plant, (they’re doing a trial without using glyphosate and so far haven’t strimmed these down) which is making the clouded yellows and me very happy. 🙂 Saw four or five around. @sussexwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Researching for a novel can take you to wonderful places, such as this book, Life Between the Tides, by #AdamNicholson, with beautiful illustrations by Kate Boxer. An examination of the life of an anemone becomes a consideration of consciousness and what it means to be alive. #researching #booksky

Beautiful walk along the #southwestcoastpath near Noss Mayo. The sea a stunning turquoise, the gorse and fields full of stonechats and wheatears. A peregrine falcon hunting overhead. Lucky to have this holiday as part of place research for my current novel. #southdevon

Another walk on #southwestcoastpath in South Devon. The wonderful 1930’s Burgh Island Hotel, scene of at least one Agatha Christie adaptation. Surfers and sanderlings on Bantham Beach. Swallows over the cliffs. Beautiful September light.
