It was so interesting to talk with you and her to be able to hear about her process and how she incorporates the concepts from EDP so effortlessly into her work! Hearing her talk about it, I was reminded of how extensive and comprehensive the art-making process can be! #ConArtInSitu

I remember seeing that these were used to carry produce and other essential sustenance items a long distance! It reminded me of the concept that art is founded out of a sort of practicality, and develops based on needed personal expression. Personally, though, I'd carry a wine bottle. #ConArtInSitu

I love your perspective on these pieces! To me, the difference in their color compositions almost remind me of yin and yang. There's a balance and an artistic association between the pieces that makes you want to understand BOTH of them. #ConArtInSitu

This piece is incredibly unique! It reminds me of a lava lamp in the way that it presents itself as a light source with a never-ending novelty to it. I feel like if I owned this I could sit and stare at it forever. The fact it could blend in with a rocky landscape interests me too. #ConArtInSitu

I agree with you about the humanness of this sculpture! It elicits a feeling almost like pity from me. There's a helplessness to a blob of matter, enticing viewers to want to "revive" or "help" it. I appreciate how well this piece was able to tap into the empathy portion of our brains #ConArtInSitu

Got Bonnie Brae's with @bloommwell.bsky.social and was intrigued by this wall art. In a way, it almost seems like an acid trip with the manner that it's able to portray such life, color, and enjoyment through its imagery. Made me want to watch Willy Wonka #ConArtInSitu

Closing my visit to the DAM today, I resonated and spent time with this piece called Pink Cloud. There's a calmness that emanates from this piece. The use of pastels and texture creates a visually complex piece, but it maintains a homey warmth that elicits a wave of emotion. #ConArtInSitu

Even the glassware from this period invokes a sense of yearning for modernity through its use of fluted figures and angularity. The intricacy shows the craftsmanship and dedication needed, further increasing my appreciation for the piece. I bet they have radium in them, though... #ConArtInSitu

Hey Siri, play Art Deco by Lana Del Rey. This period of décor seems so excited for the future, even trying to live in it during the present. There's a sense of hope for modernity in these pieces that almost resonates and applies even until today. #ConArtInSitu

This exhibit in particular emphasizes the incorporation of natural elements into home décor. Creating a seamless transition from home life to the natural world produces a sentiment of increased comfort in the home. You can appreciate these pieces the same way you would the outdoors. #ConArtInSitu

I almost feel overwhelmed by just the first exhibit in the Kirkland. There are so many pieces of décor made for entirely different purposes utilizing entirely different techniques to portray their respective artistic styles. There's a use of various woods, metals, and glass. #ConArtInSitu

THE KIRKLAND 🎉🎉 This is what I've been waiting for. Such beautiful china and vases which to me exemplify the purpose of art in an unconventional way. These pieces to me embody the spirit of creating beautiful objects for your home for the purpose of making life more enjoyable! #ConArtInSitu

The idea from my previous skeet I feel is exemplified by this historical map showcasing the import and trade of dye materials. With how specific the process to acquire these materials was, it seems like the use of bright color had to be purposeful for the artist. #ConArtInSitu

The use of fiery reds for this depiction of the eruption at Pompeii feels distinctly modern to me. I hadn't previously considered that artists of the period could represent images with this almost-passionate use of color. It feels like the artist is expressing emotions of rage. #ConArtInSitu

This piece from the 1700s depicts the Venice skyline as an original work to be replicated for foreigners to take home as souvenirs of their travels. I find this concept distinctly human, and it shows how our behavior endures throughout history, with travelers still behaving as such. #ConArtInSitu

Although easy to interpret, this piece still resonates for its simplicity and humanness. The photo from 1946 shows a veteran carrying his prosthetic as he goes about his routine. You can almost feel the pain and torment of the just-ended war, with the effects of it blatant. #ConArtInSitu

Transitioning into photography, the artistic intentions change drastically. This piece details typed rules to motivate a child to do his homework. The quotidien representation from this photo is palpable, and viewers are able to relate innately to this piece, introducing a nostalgia. #ConArtInSitu

Having said that, you can see throughout this exhibit how the purpose behind art has evolved through historical periods. For example, these pieces by Arcimboldo are branded as hoping to elicit a reaction from audiences through drama and visual composition rather than clear symbolism. #ConArtInSitu

For example, this piece holds carnations and jewelry which tell you about the subjects and who/what they valued more so than their actual representations as humans. #ConArtInSitu

Along the same line as how the fashion in these pieces portrays an idea, there is also a focus on covert symbolism that is supposed to portray sentiments and allegiances that seems to have changed in the modern era. #ConArtInSitu

Interestingly, I still can see a focus on aspects of fashion even in these pieces. Royals are portrayed in grand, glistening clothing that shows their status and power. On the other hand, more modest or religious pieces have simpler clothing which reflects who they were in their lives #ConArtInSitu

As I move from the textile section to the European art, I can see the focus changes drastically. Rather than personal expression or creativity, this section is comprised mostly of religious or portrait work. You can tell that people were more concerned about how they're remembered #ConArtInSitu

This piece from the 70s is branded as a hippie garment, and I agree with that sentiment. The artist seems to have had a vision for a visually striking garment with a flowy figure. The designer, rather than focusing on expectations, created something he could personally resonate with. #ConArtInSitu

How fortunate to be able to see the conservation process for these textiles in action! The amount of detail and care that these art conservationists must have for their role is astounding. I'm glad that I was able to see the people behind the scenes; it makes the pieces more relatable #ConArtInSitu

I didn't even need to look at the placard to know that these were from the 60s. It's intriguing to see how fashion can define an era so well that it's instantly recognizable to audiences decades later! These pieces are prime examples of the period exploring shapes and angles. #ConArtInSitu

These pieces from the Grès house exemplify to me the incorporation of an artist's style into their pieces! She takes her training in sculpture to create unique silhouettes that portray a much more elegant and modern feel. I could see these being worn at the Oscars! #ConArtInSitu

I had heard the term haute couture before, but I hadn't realized how much of a class signifier it was. Each dress is custom-made for each client from a sanctioned house. You can see the greater attention to detail and the customization for each client that isn't present elsewhere. #ConArtInSitu

Throughout the exhibit, I can tell how dress has changed throughout history and which moments influenced these shifts in style. These wrap dresses still aim to portray a feminine style, but they diverge from those before by focusing on wearability and personal expression. #ConArtInSitu

Right across from the previous pieces are these two gowns, the left made for a ball hosted by a Rothschild while the right is for an afternoon outing. To me, these reflect what the previous skeets are trying to diverge from. These pieces hold a rigidity and gendered look. #ConArtInSitu

The juxtaposition of the fluidity in the left dress and the military style of the Mao suit make me realize just how varied the context of different cultures can influence the texture, style, and feel of the clothing made by these artists. #ConArtInSitu

Throughout the exhibit, there are several references to the artists' home cultures. This incorporation of cultural motifs feels like a direct call to how culture and art is able to infiltrate every aspect of life, including the clothing. #ConArtInSitu

At first glance this floor seems like it only holds women's wear, but there are several artists whose aim is to push the envelope on men's clothing! This piece by Yohji Yamamoto takes a stance, with this suit aiming to develop menswear as an androgynous expression. #ConArtInSitu

I feel like this piece reflects well on the postwar period when utilitarian clothing was valued more. Yet the artist still manages to incorporate some fashionable aspects to it with the buttons, combining the two wants of the women wearing it and of the societal pressures at the time. #ConArtInSitu

I can definitely see the attention to accentuating a woman's form in this dress, as well! It almost seems like it was dedicated for women to experience a party or an event with the purpose of making it more comfortable and expressive for THEM! #ConArtInSitu

I love this journey you took in understanding the relation between the photo and the poem. I felt like this succeeds in its combination of two different forms of visual art that sells a cohesive story to the audience. To me, the two pieces felt like a reference to childhood naïveté. #ConArtInSitu

Another theme I've noticed a lot in the Aboriginal exhibit is a presence of stippling and softer, rounder depictions throughout the works. I wonder if this theme has a cultural significance or is merely a coincidence. #ConArtInSitu

I was ridiculed by my museum-mates for thinking this piece looked like Chinese porcelain. I would like yo defend my stance, since it holds the blue-white motifs and the almost geometric depictions of scenes in nature. What fun! #ConArtInSitu

Bloom, Elizabeth, and I sat with this piece and had a productive discussion. We discussed the connections between the circular motifs and how they make us feel. The piece ranges in its derived emotions and depictions of the land that the artist wished to portray! #ConArtInSitu

A common theme that I notice in the Aboriginal pieces is the connection to the land and important markers that are valued by the different groups. This painting, like others, depicts a map of an important local site with extreme detail through the collaboration of alike people. #ConArtInSitu

This is such a visually interesting piece by Aboriginal artist Gulumbu Yunupinu. She's able to take a concept as simple as the tales of the stars told to her by her father into a unique work that almost pops out at you to command attention, similar to the stars. #ConArtInSitu
