I think the closest to a glimmer I've had in the past few days is needing to provide impressions of my characters to help a narrator get started. Coffee and going on about characters. And I'm fine to leave it at that as long as these have helped, but happy to provide more if needed.

GOP ads right now are all about attacking trans people. Over, and over, and over. I was a gay teen in 2004 watching the Bush campaign try to win on attacking gay marriage, but the resort to this hate drive in campaign ads feels so dialed up now. I can’t imagine being an lgbt kid watching tv today.

The Magyar government understands if they let up then Fidesz and Orban will regroup like the Brasilian Far Right did and can come right back in. So they have to move with intense endless purpose to cut out the cancer of Orban. Because five years is not much time to reverse it all & clock’s ticking.

I don't describe a lot of stories as a must-read, but this one should be for Toronto voters. I heard the words 'ideologically rudderless ambitionist' used to describe a different politician. But I think they apply to Brad Bradford, too. #GiftLink 🎁 #ToPoli #BikeTO www.thestar.com/gift-redeem?...
I’ll have more on Chow in a later column. But the Bradford conversations have been striking for their near uniformity. Most of the people I’ve spoken to, from across the political spectrum, don’t disagree with Bradford so much as they dislike him as a person. Several supporters told me they found Bradford weirdly intense. Chow backers — including many who once stood with Tory — and those with no horse in this race went much further. They told me — almost to a person — that they find Bradford unprincipled and disloyal.

This is more than just the normal political griping. For whatever reason, many who have worked closely with Bradford over the past eight years think he is almost uniquely unlikable. I’m not sure I’ve ever covered anyone who inspires so much personal vitriol. Many — and not just progressives — think he would be a terrible mayor, not because he believes in awful ideas but because they don’t think he believes in anything at all.

Apropos of a thread I saw earlier with an artistic depiction of prototaxites. They vaguely reminded me of this standing stone from the Hills of Tara, but taller. live.staticflickr.com/22/35585973_...
Lia Fail stone display as placed on the Hills of Tara. A standing stone surrounded at its foot by a round arrangement of bricks embedded in the earth. In the distance we see grass, rolling hills, trees, and a few sheep.

Around that time I also got a snap of this older building, the Royal Alexandra Theatre, across from which I would coincidentally get my ride home after 5pm on Sunday.
A distant photo of the front of the Royal Alexandra Theatre amidst scaffolding and framed by glass towers. A lone security guard stands watch facing toward the street.

But I knew that I was facing toward Roy Thomson Hall most of the day, which helped somewhat. And some folks were savvy enough to keep their number-plates outside the seal of the tent, which provided clues. I found my place eventually.
A corridor of patchy grass between closed white festival tents. In the immediate background, Roy Thomson Hall. Farther away are glass towers of the Toronto skyline, including First Canadian Place.

This is a celebratory flame in the middle of a pool. I was wandering David Pecaut Square on Sunday morning, before most other exhibitors had arrived, so a few of my photos are from that time. I was having difficulty finding reference points that would give away where my tent was, even with a map.
An eternal flame burns on a pedestal in the middle of a shallow pond. A commemorative plaque is in the foreground, while closed white tents are visible in the background.

Bugs were frequent visitors. Most were just passing through (which was good given how many were bees/wasps) but a particular red dragonfly loved to hang out. Not pictured, a monarch butterfly kept patrolling but didn't pose for me.
A dragonfly perches on the top left corner of a paperback copy of Prince Ewald the Brave, a fantasy novel by Dylan Madeley. Blurry patchy grass is visible in the background.
