The longer I work in monthly comics (19 years now!), the clearer it becomes that a huge key to writing on deadline is just MAKING CHOICES. I can spent hours/days/months mulling over possibilities in a story. But to get it done, I have to just PICK SOMETHING and give it a shot and see if it works.

If Bluesky seems dead or low activity on your end it might be that you haven't yet made the most of its design. It's different from Twitter in some key ways so you have to interact differently. I'm writing these tips below from my non-techy perspective, techies please weigh in if I get things wrong:

2) The built-in "Discover new feeds" search bar built into your "Settings" section only shows you feeds that have received 100+ likes. That's rare. Find feeds two other ways: goodfeeds.co and by checking the "Feeds" tab on user profiles.

new issues of fantastic four opens with a great page
Two comic book styled panels of Mr. Fantastic fighting Dr. Doom in the latest issue of Fantastic Four. Blind artist Alicia Masters narrates over them.

"When you want to make comics accessible to blind people, one size doesn't fit all.

Some of us care about what the characters look like. Most blind people still have SOME vision, after all.

For others, it's irrelevant, especially if what people look like doesn't actually impact the story."A man in glasses sits in front of an old radio microphone, reading a newspaper.

"In July 1945, there was an newspaper-delivery strike in NYC. In response, the mayor went on the radio and read out the funny pages, ensuring that the city's comic-loving kids wouldn't be impacted by what the adults were doing.

He described what was happening in the comics, did voices for all the characters, brought it to life."A child sits in front of an old radio, smiling.

"It was to score political points, but it also made comics accessible to millions of people -- for free and by no less a person than the mayor of New York City himself.

People who'd never been able to read comics before suddenly could experience them."

On Twitter in one of my threads someone just said "Threads had 30M signups in one day, Bluesky has lost its chance to become the next Twitter" and he may be right, but what he doesn't know is that people here are like "cool, dodged THAT bullet"
