Yeah, the Factorio chart was made unreadable, heh. As for how I used Grist, I did a live interactive presentation using various Grist views at DEF CON 34 - the description is at defcon.org/html/defcon-... and I look forward to seeing them release a recording of the talk.

@getgrist.com Wince with me. My reaction when I saw this ad-misaligned chart (after thinking of a Cory Doctorow word) was disgust and disengagement. Meanwhile, I had no fear showing a Grist chart in my DEF CON talk. Thanks for making charts and spreadsheets without ads in them.

I took @tas.bot to the Game Hacking Village at DEF CON 34 and I brought all the shenanigans as per usual - you should definitely check out zetier.com/game-hacking... to see what absurdity we got up to this time.

On a personal note, I did two Game Hacking Village days on my feet at DEF CON extolling the virtues of what @tas.bot can do and I was able to endure the physical gut pain I'd struggled to face the last two years without most being the wiser. Chronic pain is hard, but easier in the right headspace.

Good news, folks who are remote can participate in the full DEF CON Game Hacking Village CTF which just opened up online and will run all weekend. Come to discord.gg/tasbot and say hi to hack games like RuneScape, NetHack, and Zork!

I'm still facing the same physical health challenges and my next specialist appointment isn't until October but my ability to cope has improved. Nothing changed but my mental outlook as it were, and that's enough for me.

Unfortunately, I had 2+ years of day job unemployment (needed as all TASBot income streams combined fall short of even covering travel to charity events). I'm working now but I've been ill since March 2024. GDQ wasn't possible for me, but I'm feeling well enough to take TASBot to MAGWest at least.

I never joined Facebook in the first place so I've avoided Threads completely and lack a relative size comparison; do you find the community size you have is worth saving there or is it a sign it's time to move somewhere more stable?

TL;DW: TASBot Labs 501c3 is alive but I'm still facing health challenges and haven't even eaten solid food in three weeks. If you can help lead creating TASBot content or can manage @tas.bot posts, please swing by Discord.gg/TASBot even if it's just to say hi. Thanks for the support all!

Seriously, he's super huggable, I kept catching myself hugging the prototype TASBot plushie when I took TASBot to the Computer History Museum for an event last week. :) I don't yet know how it'll work shipping any remaining stock after MAGFest but hopefully I can get one to anyone who wants one.

041

dwangoAC, keeper of TASBot @dwangoac.tas.bot · 08/12/2025

Heh, well, we have TASBot pretend to be a controller at the electrical level most of the time but we did experiment with the Mashbot setup where a plotter pressed buttons and the resistive touchscreen on a Nintendo DS. I wouldn't recommend it. :)

020

dwangoAC, keeper of TASBot @dwangoac.tas.bot · 15/11/2025

OK, so update, it doesn't look like I can get the plushies to arrive at MAGFest until January 5th so let's just assume the timing isn't going to work out. Shipping is going to be the option for this year but it'll be okay.

010

dwangoAC, keeper of TASBot @dwangoac.tas.bot · 15/11/2025

Don't sell yourself too short there, you can absolutely get passionate about things you know and care about :)

100

dwangoAC, keeper of TASBot @dwangoac.tas.bot · 06/11/2025

The riskiest part is the "there myself" part. I can probably get TASBot plushies to folks who pre-requested them but given my current financial and health circumstances it's more likely I'll only be able to attend MAGFest in person. Still, let's assume I can at least get plushies to AGDQ somehow.

030

dwangoAC, keeper of TASBot @dwangoac.tas.bot · 06/11/2025

Yes. Pending me pulling the trigger on taking the risk to place the order and ensuring we can actually get them shipped in time, but yes. I'd take the plushies there myself. (TASBot has a big heart but short arms or he'd do it for me.)

Welcome here, and optics aside, welcome out of the darkness. I had a similar experience moving on from my deep fundamentalist conservative background growing up on a farm. I lost my entire social world and rebuilt. I'd like to chat with you about what it was like for me over the past decade. DM me.

dwangoAC, keeper of TASBot @dwangoac.tas.bot · 01/10/2025

It was a long process getting a prototype of TASBot we felt met our standards and we requested a couple improvements but I'm happy to see what folks think. Unfortunately, we'd need a minimum commitment of 150 and tariffs make it $45 plus shipping. Would you buy one? I think he's cute. :)

I improperly use both Bluesky and Python. For fun. I submit to your critique. ```python #!/usr/bin/env python3 from random import randint from sys import argv secret = randint(1, 6) print("Too big!" if int(argv[1]) > secret else "Too small!" if int(argv[1]) < secret else "You win!") ```

I note how in 2015 I was diagnosed with a GI health issue that worsened over the last year. It impacted my mental health and I apologize for over-sharing before I felt I had to step away these past few months. I set up acbit.net/donate for medical costs but mostly I just want to get out there again.

Researching SNES APU clock speeds has been interesting. It largely only matters for playing back a TAS on real hardware, but it was fascinating how temperature had less impact than different consoles and seeing the distribution was centered around faster values. Thank you to everyone who helped!

I've only ever written code in Python so I decided to learn Rust a while back. I really struggled with some of the semantic differences but I think I've developed a unique style that combines the best of both languages while still compiling without warnings.

Rust programming language source code demonstrating a simple "guess the number" game, but with all of the syntactic characters such as ;, {, and } moved far to the right side, resulting in a code appearance similar to Python which lacks syntax braces and characters.

I have always been happy the TASBot community, and especially the Discord.TAS.Bot server, has been able to find more in common helping a cute robot play games perfectly than arguing over what separates us. @tas.bot does not know how to hate. If only the rest of us were so lucky.
