Kentucky has one basic cash assistance program for kids in *extremely* low-income families. That program has become the target for benefit cuts in order to backfill other, underfunded programs. But those fund sweeps hurt kids, and may not save money in the long run.

KY insurance companies are requesting between 16.9% and 21.2% increases in premiums on kynect (our health insurance marketplace) for next year. insurance.ky.gov/ppc/Ratefil/... These will change before they're final, but the impact of the expired tax credits on the risk pool is real.

In the long run, the college degree is losing its edge: Unemployment for young college graduates has risen in historical terms, and the college wage premium has been flat or falling in recent years.

Today's jobs report came in stronger than expected with an increase of 178,000 to payroll employment. However, much of the gain was a bounce back to February declines (now a loss of 133,000 jobs). As a result, average monthly growth the last two months was only 22,500 jobs. #NumbersDay #EconSky

So these numbers get revised all the time, but at the moment it looks like Kentucky had roughly 2,800 fewer federal employees in November than in January. This is our first glimpse at federal employment after the deferred resignation program ended in September.

2 federal judges ruled nearly simultaneously that Trump must continue to fund SNAP using contingency funds during the government shutdown. One gave them until Monday to tell the court whether it will “authorize at least reduced SNAP benefits for November” and set a timeline for doing so.

NEWS: The Trump admin's decision to suspend SNAP benefits due to the shutdown has been blocked. In two cases, both judges found the government action is likely illegal. Although a judge in Mass gave the admin until Monday to reverse course, a judge in Rhode Island issued a TRO from the bench today.

We will be spending 50% more in federal money on a ballroom than we will on the necessary technology for all 50 states + DC to implement the work reporting requirement for Medicaid. The worse that reporting technology is, the more people will lose health coverage. 🤷‍♂️

In pre-birthing classes etc. people are often told that labor can take awhile, you don't need to rush to hospital. My labor first went realllllllllly fast. I arrived at hospital about 10 minute drive away almost too far along to get an epidural. An hour earlier I wasn't even sure I was in labor.

As someone who relies heavily on government data for research (not BLS data per se), I am very worried that I am going to have a black box of omitted years in certain data sets. I have concerns with the quality of the data and it's going to take a lot of effort to validate it.
