Data centers throw away their heat. The neighborhood next door could be using it.
Nearly all the electricity a data center consumes comes back out as heat from electronic equipment. Today, essentially all of that heat is thrown away, vented to the atmosphere. It could instead be used to provide residential heating to entire neighborhoods, cutting utility bills and keeping the air cleaner.
