Interested in having a symposium at #Behaviour2027 ? We are officially open to proposals! Please carefully follow the guidelines below:
Call for Symposia
Behaviour 2027
23-27 August
Vienna, Austria
The Behaviour 2027 Scientific Committee invites proposals to organize
symposia from individual organizers or teams of two to three co-chairs.
Symposium format
• Each symposium must have at least one chair; the chair must be
registered for the conference and attend in person.
• Duration: 90 minutes.
• Format: 6 presentations of 12 + 3 minutes each (total 90 minutes);
an alternative format would be 1 invited talk of 25+5 minutes,
followed by contributed talks of 12 + 3 minutes (adjust the number
of contributed talks accordingly to fit within 90 minutes).
• All speakers must register for the conference and attend in person.
The committee reserves the right to propose suitable submissions to the
symposium chair if there is still space available in the symposium.
Proposal preparation
Please provide:
1. Names, affiliation and contact information of the primary chair
(contact person) and co-chairs.
2. Proposed symposium title.
3. A maximum 200-word abstract introducing the topic and justifying
why it merits a symposium at the conference.
4. Names of at least two confirmed speakers (please verify their
availability).
Financial arrangements
The Behaviour 2027 organizers cannot cover registration, travel, or
accommodation for symposium organizers or speakers. The conference
will provide the venue and standard audio-visual equipment.
Diversity and inclusivity
We strongly encourage conveners to assemble speaker line-ups that
reflect diversity in gender, nationality, geography, and career stage.
Fostering diversity and inclusivity is a core priority of Behaviour 2027
Evaluation criteria
Our criteria include originality, interest, and relevance to Behaviour 2027,
and balance across gender, nationality, and career stage of invited
speakers.
If accepted, the chair, in consultation with the Symposium Committee, will
finalize the speaker list and order of appearance. Chairs are requested to
provide a brief introduction at the start and lead the entire session.
Evaluation timeline
Proposals will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee. Notifications will
be sent end of November 2026.
Proposal Submission
Please submit your proposal online via email to
behaviour2027@univie.ac.at by 1 November 2026. Later submissions will
not be considered.
Abstract submission
Upon selection, the chair is responsible for ensuring that speakers submit
their abstracts and register on time to be considered for inclusion in the
symposium.
Decision about contributions submitted to accepted symposia will be
evaluated by the session chairs.

Who benefits from mating with multiple partners? Darwin suspected that in some cases, it may be the females rather than the males. A new long-term study on African coucals shows: when males provide all parental care, females can have more offspring by competing for and mating with multiple partners.
