A programming language can be a thought experiment
Daniel Temkin’s esolangs run on friction: code as empty folders, melodies, decaying data.

Esolangs for Artists – workshop with Daniel Temkin - Računalniški muzej
What happens when programming languages aim not at functionality and efficiency, but at irritation and reflection, or act like poetry? In this beginner-friendly workshop, we’ll explore esolangs: languages that do exactly that. They include code written as images, as sound, or in forms that no computer can decode. Each esolang offers a new take on

OH Functional programming is when Rust people read your code and go "what the fuck (laudatory)". Imperative programming is when Rust people read your code and go "what the fuck (derogatory)"

The only pushback I’ve had about making esolangs as art has been from a small group of algorithmic artists who really should know better... most esolangers don’t think of their own work as art but are cool with my doing so

At InventingEliza.com you can talk to the most accurate reproduction of DOCTOR running on the ELIZA platform and find loads of other content, including code and context. Anthony Hay built this faithful recreation, featured at the Jeu de Paume in Paris! #ArtificialIntelligence #computerhistory
A screenshot of the InventingEliza.com website interface, featuring a retro green-screen terminal window that reads "ELIZA · DOCTOR · CTSS (EMULATED)" at the top and displays the text prompt "HOW DO YOU DO. What is a computer? That's a question I've grappled with for years. The answer changes depending on what period we are talking about. In this episode I'm looking at a machine from 1950 that's digital, but only barely. Would you call it a computer? podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/m...
