This is premised on so many flawed assumptions including that: 1.) sign languages are wild human gesticulations as opposed to fully developed languages 2.) sign languages and close captions are mutually intelligible 3.) there couldn’t possibly be Deaf individuals at the actual press conference

From there, we’d see much fewer deaf people on welfare, greater educational & employment attainment, w/ better outcomes. The point: we need to focus on actual language, education, & employment outcomes - not biased medical research that assumes if implants work, outcomes are good.

Deaf people and our communities are economically exploited with little in return from birth until death. Most of this happens until the age of 18-21. After 18, you're also derided as a taxpayer burden if you dont magically overcome societal failures and barriers to get a job. Some examples below

Subtitles aren’t just for deaf or hard of hearing players. They’re important for players in loud environments (who can’t use headphones), non-native speakers who rely on text to follow dialogue, and many neurodivergent folks who struggle to focus or process audio quickly. Just to mention few.
