Yes, humans can write bad code too. But scrutiny should be done by those who truly know. A cautionary tale of insufficient scrutiny on human-written code: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Therac-25

Not you... Jimmygumble. Well, really anybody who thinks that a gigantic blob of code vomited from an AI without intense scrutiny is "good enough". Just imagine what will happen to elevators, airplanes, automobiles... I'm just saying code needs scrutiny, and scrutiny requires knowledgeable people.

It's a good thing I've reached a decent age before all this started. I prefer not to die in an <insert machine name> controlled by AI in one of the many untested scenarios. This young person will surely get the world he deserves, and may eventually come to rue it (if he survives the carnage).

Storage unit guys buy a unit that apparently belonged to a game developer and find design docs, source disks, etc. No idea what the circumstances around this unit were, but just a reminder: if you think stuff "belongs in a museum" definitely try to do that sooner. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSa6...

The fan favorite of the Brandish series was released on the PC-98 in 1994, and that's where it has stayed since. It may be getting an English patch in the future, but as of now this game has always been one of the best kept Falcom secrets on the PC-98. youtu.be/bA7K046_QUc

I've discovered additional roulette sequences in Debutante Detective Corps on the PC-FX, so I'm working on getting those into English. It feels like we're getting close now. I'm more confident this will be a released project, and very high quality, minus a concession or two.
The start of Nina's roulette sequence. "Welcome to Nina's counseling room... Without further ado, it's Nina's prescription roulette!"The roulette spinning. The roulette landed on "treat." "Oh my, the roulette prescribed drastic treatment after all. Hee-hee... I can't wait."

Another quite reasonable theory is that they are petrified about the possibility that local models may exist at some point - depriving them of income streams - so they would like to prevent that from happening. Pretty plausible.

Many of the claims which have been made, I simply don’t see being satisfied by the language models currently in place; a different form (generation, actually) of AI would be needed. I think they're slowly realizing this and trying to extend the funding window.

During the dot-com crash, some of the first signs were investor calls asking why the companies still had so much cash, and why wasn't it being invested *NOW* - they wanted the payback soon. CEOs couldn't explain properly, so the money was spent on infrastructure, as the market wasn't yet developed.

What if this was actually a request to be regulated, to use as an excuse for why the tools aren't continuing to improve according to their promised timelines? Many of the "by next year..." promises should have happened by now. Investors must be getting impatient. Customers are.
160
David Shadoff @dshadoff.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
But simultaneously, there are voices calling for regulation, both from inside and outside of these companies. What’s up with that?

David Shadoff @dshadoff.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
First thought was that this was a form of advertising. Maybe to individuals, to provide a concept of ongoing improvement. Maybe to the military-industrial complex, to foster confidence in AI for use in their activities. Everybody always wants more money after all.

David Shadoff @dshadoff.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Yes, willfully negligent. Any half-decent developer or tester is going to create an isolated test environment to run their tests and observe for side-effects, network traffic and so on. And have a clear endpoint. So, I question the "oh my gosh, really? ...this happened?" aspect.

Seeing all the AI makers' press releases about their agents "escaping" and causing harm makes me wonder why. Why press releases? Why did everybody join with "me too"? Most of all, if these people are so smart, why would their "tests" be so willfully negligent in their setup?

I have heard no feedback from: - TerraOnion (SSDS3 was slow), - Analogue (test not working on Duo, as ADPCM hardware not active from HuCard images) - Ootake (test not working properly on ver 3.06 - possibly the ADPCM counter is not implemented as 17-bit )

I like the "emulation on RP2040/2350 microcontroller" scene: early 1980s computers being replicated - keyboard to screen - on a single microcontroller. If I had time, I'd like to use multiple MCUs (per-subsystem) to get more power/modularity. They're cheap and easy to justify.

Given that code is very precise language, and LLMs work with language (not truth, not understanding, nothing creative), it would make sense that programmers would be the first to benefit from the plagiarism machine.

Well, features driven by user request are the least of my complaints. I’d rather have a new feature that I ignore than to be required to re-learn how to access existing features.

Since this is more of a big-company phenomenon, I prefer the explanation of marketing driving development while understanding nothing about the product - but being capricious about appearance - and the preference to do simple things with limited impact instead of difficult, meaningful things.

I don’t know about these specifically, but I had heard that some may run in emulation, with accesses to specific areas triggering the display of (English) overlays from the emulator instead of changing the original contents.
