Last time I was in Foyles, they still had the chit process for buying books. Last night was the ever inventive and unpredictable (but predictably brilliant) David Thomas Broughton, with an all-star cast of Charles Hayward and Matthew Bourne. More @babayagashut.bsky.social magic

The deputy head at my primary school would make misbehaving kids sit at the front and show the whole assembly what they'd been doing. Cue a line-up of: 1. Boy throwing his book in the air and catching it 2.Boy making fart noises with his armpit 3.Two boys taking it in turns to punch each other

I was in a tiny secondhand bookshop in Morecambe and the owner had it on a portable TV screen. Don't remember us speaking at all, just watching as the events unfolded. Later found out that a friend who worked in the WTC had survived because she was late for work.

Ok - who lives in #Brighton, or knows peeps who do? Be Kind Cadaver have put together a frankly excellent show on 24th of September - expect mad ritual, experimental post-punk, doom-ballads and more. Plus the support for this one are all awesome. Help us out - share this to your Brighton friends!

They released this a couple of days ago
After months of uncertainty, significant investment and difficult conversations, we have decided that IKLECTIK will not continue at Peckham Levels.
A major factor has been the denial of the business rates relief we sought as a cultural not-for-profit, despite a long appeals process supported by cultural organisations, local councillors and Music Venue Trust. The current business rates system does not reflect the reality of grassroots cultural spaces like IKLECTIK, where income is continually reinvested into artists, programming and cultural opportunities rather than maximising profit out of the building. While reform of the wider system requires change at the government level, we are deeply disappointed that Southwark Council did not recognise our role as a not-for-profit cultural provider and grant us discretionary rates relief, which is within their power.
Combined with the higher costs of running a venue and our continued reliance on a gig-revenue model, these conditions posed too great a financial risk and would have compromised both the nature and aims of our programming and the well-being of our team.
We want to thank The Trampery, the community at Peckham Levels, Music Venue Trust, and everyone who has supported us, performed with us, danced with us, experimented with us and believed in what an independent space for adventurous culture can be.
While we navigate an extremely challenging period, personally and financially, the best way to support us is to come to our remaining events until 25 October. Every ticket and every person in the room helps us recover, rebuild and shape what comes next.
We are working towards new shapes for our future programming. Stay tuned to learn more soon, and subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated on news about this situation and final programming at Peckham Levels.

You're not supposed to admit you're struggling. But we r - and I know for a fact we're not alone. The grassroots is dying - it needs U to keep it alive. Buy something from a small label/press. Tell ppl about it who don't often support such things. Explain to them why it's so important. PLS SHARE.
