If anyone is having trouble following my (increasingly long) thread tracking incidents where police assaulted journalists at protests in Los Angeles this weekend, it's also in spreadsheet form here. This is the more organized version I've been sending to lawyers, agency chiefs, electeds, etc.

Hi Belinda. Sorry about this. Journalists who are reporting on protests are esp. at risk of injury at the hands of police. That dynamic has been far worse since Trump's first term where he vilified journalists endlessly. LAPD is also known for it. After only 3 days, there's a long list of attacks.

I worry about the future of democracy when leaders like Emmanuel Macron act like kings -- and possibly stoke resentment towards government. Macron has lost touch with what it means to work, to travel with children, or to spend 26 euros.

It is bracing to reread the Framers’ bone-deep fears about foreign corruption of the presidency and realize Trump is exactly what they were trying to prevent. slate.com/news-and-pol...
Many delegates, including Alexander Hamilton, fretted that "one of the weak sides of republics" was their susceptibility "to foreign corruption"; leaders elevated to "stations of great preeminence and power" by the people, Hamilton wrote, may be tempted to abandon their
"obligations of duty," lured by "compensations" from other nations seeking influence. In other words, federal officials could be so entranced by the wealth of foreign leaders, especially monarchs, that they might sell out their own country in exchange for a share of the riches dangled before them. The delegates sought to guard against this existential threat to republican "virtue" by adopting the foreign emoluments clause-unanimously, and without debate.

Conservative advocates and politicians, when discussing the issue, generally do not specify which parent could choose to stay home with the children. But more than 80 percent of stay-at-home parents are women — and some advocates are open about the fact that they see benefits to a mother filling that role.

“We cannot get away from the fact that a child is hard-wired to bond with mom,” said Jenet Erickson, a co-writer of Mr. Vance’s 2021 essay and a fellow at the Institute for Family Studies, a conservative policy group that advocates for raising the birthrate. “They know her smell, they know her heartbeat, they know her voice. I just think, why should we deny that?”

See this? It's called a non-inferiority trial. It compares the new vaccine with the current vaccines to see if the new vaccine does better. This new vaccine did. Placebo-controlled trials are not needed to test most new vaccines. Demanding them will only reduce vaccine access. Which is the point.
