Fear and Loathing in New Vegas @drslowpokephd.bsky.social · 28/05/2026its just better to filter out the nodes I want by group, select them all, and then give them all the same script in the editor 010
Fear and Loathing in New Vegas @drslowpokephd.bsky.social · 28/05/2026set_script() seems to only work when creating a node via its constructor at runtime, so you would have to remove the original node from the tree, copy it, set_script, give the new node the same name as the original node, delete the original node, add the copy to the tree, call request_ready(), etc. 110
Fear and Loathing in New Vegas @drslowpokephd.bsky.social · 27/05/2026In the trenches (some bs involving User Interfaces for a settings menu) and am disappointed to know that the set_script() method in godot will not let you attach a script to an object at runtime, which is understandable, but also incredibly lame. 110
Fear and Loathing in New Vegas @drslowpokephd.bsky.social · 27/05/2026Still working on this mechanic, added a stamina meter to limit the total velocity gain, as well as a condition to reset the boost after not using it for a few seconds. I feel more comfortable giving a bigger boost to wiggling when it resets, so that's what ill be focusing on next. 010
Fear and Loathing in New Vegas @drslowpokephd.bsky.social · 14/05/2026bingo, exactly what i wanted. now I just gotta fine-tune it. #doldrums #indiedev 110
Fear and Loathing in New Vegas @drslowpokephd.bsky.social · 14/05/2026standing still is obviously not desirable (as funny as it would be), so I wanna discourage the player from standing still as much as possible by both encouraging action, and discouraging inaction. 110
Fear and Loathing in New Vegas @drslowpokephd.bsky.social · 14/05/2026In my own testing, and watching friends play the game, they tend to fall into one of two categories. * move around as much as possible to gain as much velocity as possible * stay still and wait to eventually gain as much velocity as possible below is an example of both strategies in action 110
Fear and Loathing in New Vegas @drslowpokephd.bsky.social · 14/05/2026right now movement is almost entirely based around the physics engine. upward momentum is calculated by slightly bouncy physics materials, just enough to increase the y velocity ever so slightly. 140
Fear and Loathing in New Vegas @drslowpokephd.bsky.social · 14/05/2026gonna work on a new mechanic for doldrums today, should make the game a hell of a lot more interesting 130
