Missing from lots of literature on immigration is just how much survival is contingent the communal orientation of co-travelers. I have stories of a Bangladeshi man jumping into a river to save a Haitian. Of Sudani paying Chadian smuggler fees. Of Ecuadorians advocating for Mauritanians.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

The comeback of the Left in Germany is sensational. Almost written off ahead of elections, they won 6 districts and almost 9% of votes + are biggest party in Berlin and among young voters. Also only party to not campaign on anti-immigration but to focus on affordable rent and cost of living

The German Christian Democratic Party's "5-Point Plan" on migration and border control was passed by 348 to 345 votes a few minutes ago. For the first time since the end of the Nazi regime, a proposal has been passed with the support of a right-wing party's votes. A dark day for Germany.
