Further thoughts on it I think are worth your time.

Being "Apolitical" or "Not political" as an artist - beyond just being a dogwhistle - is a privilege not everyone has. I certainly do not.
Not every band or artist needs to have an *overt* political message, or talk about social issues, and certainly especially in metal few bands qualify as actual outright protest music, but all art is political and exists in a greater social context--it can never be divorced from that.
The option to keep your mouth shut is right there. But going out of your way to state "yeah we don't do politics" *is* a political choice
Again, especially when for folks like me... we have none
To do what I do as who I am - an outspoken trasngender woman who is an active advocate for marginalized people in words, action, and fundraising
Is a risk. To my safety. To my livelihood. To my person.
Who I am and the things I fight for and believe in is no secret, it's well documented, you can go read, watch, listen, etc countless interviews, articles, and my own art and get a very clear picture - I've worked hard to be someone who works past their own privlieges and strives to do better, and I will never stop. I've failed, struggled, made mistakes, done wrong, been wrong, many times--and will again--but I will always push forward for better.
Those are things I *chose* to do because I believe in them
But as a transgender woman simply existing I did not choose to be a political wedge just for showing up and wanting to play music like any other musician. I did not choose to simply go "Here's me playing the guitar and a nice tune!" and endure the flak, hatred, bigotry, of others without prompting.
We are forced to be "political" for simply daring to be visible and present in a society that increasingly is pushing us to the margins, stripping our rights, and when you can't walk outside without harassment or stares, or go through an airport without wondering if your documentation will be seized or you'll be detained,

We don't get to say "Hey let's leave that at the door" even though I guarantee you most of us would *love* to be able to do what you do and tune out the evils of the world--even just to catch our breath for one moment.
You can't tune out the boot when its on your fucking neck.
And a lot of you - my friends, followers, fans, listeners, whatever, may not fully understand that.
And I don't need you to fully understand that
I don't need you to get every nuance
To agree on every "political" theory
But you do need to *respect* the gravity of the above
And not get in the way of the full humanity and autonomy and liberation of marginalized people
Sometimes it's as simple as shutting the fuck up and just minding your own business
Honestly, it's often that easy, and hilariously, that's often what many struggle with the most
Other times it means seeing the bigger picture and standing up for what's right - which is truly as simple as not standing for what steps on the humanity and well being of the people next to you - and not willingly siding with the powers that be in this world that would see us all crushed under its heel
We have more in common than we don't
And we're stronger together
But you have to get out of your own way to allow that
And coming from a place of privilege to be "apolitical" and "not influence you with bullshit" is not that
Aging rich rock stars may have inspired me to pickup the axe - may have inspired us all - may have made art that means so much to us and probably always will despite whatever bullshit they get up to

But I chose to make it mean something better - I choose to take a spark that helped light my own fire and do something more with it
We can't help the failures and disappointments of those who came before us
But we can choose our own legacy and be an active voice and action in moving forward to something better
Will you get out of your own way?
Will you be part of something more?
Or will you run, like a coward, from the hard stuff. From the contradictions. From the messy feelings. From the uncertainty. From the ugliness. From the challenge of being a better person in an increasingly worse world.
I know what I've chosen
And every person that works with, associates with, plays with me, has on some level chosen to be part of that
And together we will be better than heroes that disappointed us and a world that let us down
You have to decide the same
And you're running out of time
So here's me
