Depends on the goals of the protest. At largely peaceful protests where the goal is visibility and organizing someone like a Piker getting eyes out so people see they aren’t alone even if they can’t go can be advantageous. For smaller protests meant to rabble rouse a bit:No phones/cameras

Big music companies will often hide clauses in contracts about use of the original masters in certain mediums. I suspect thats the loophole. I have problems with Taylor Swift, but her buying back her masters and bringing up what that means for artists who haven't signed major deals is a big deal.
