This attitude is just so strange. Millions of people in every corner of the world quite literally organize their lives around this book. It’s launched wars and peaceful revolutions and underlies the most important institutions in the western world. How is it possible to dismiss this?

You can’t understand western art without understanding the Bible. Imagine standing beneath Sistine Chapel and not caring about what this book said, or before the Unicorn Tapestries, the Pieta. It’s undeniably the most effective book ever written, and your life will be impoverished by this attitude.

The only difference on the left between those that support gun ownership and those who are against it, is that one group fundamentally trusts the government and the other doesn't.

Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil died after being trapped in a building hit by Israeli airstrikes. A Post reconstruction of Khalil’s final hours found that Israel denied rescuers access to her during a key period when she was still alive. wapo.st/43omgty

Hi pals! I've got something I'm REALLY excited about in the works... I'll be editing a nonfiction anthology about the Yukon River. Timelines are tight so I'm mostly seeking out existing work (in your publication archive, sitting on your hard drive...) Please submit / share! forms.gle/Q622LYHExe7x...
A screengrab from the linked Google Form reads:

Submit Your Story: Yukon River anthology
Y1A Publishing is accepting submissions of nonfiction writing about the Yukon River!

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT: JUNE 30, 2026

We're looking for personal reflections, nature writing, travel writing... anything nonfiction that is neither strictly academic work nor hard-news journalism. We're hoping to build an anthology that ranges widely, with a diverse array of perspectives on the river from its headwaters all the way to the Bering Sea.

Accepted stories that run less than 1500 words will be paid $250 CAD.
Accepted stories that run longer will be paid $500 CAD.
Previously published work is welcome, so long as you, the writer, retain the rights.

Our winning story by @drewphilp.bsky.social is about a probable genocide. It's stunning and unflinching. He reported the hell out of it over 2 years, as a freelancer, and the result is the most definitive account about the conflict published anywhere. magazine.atavist.com/2025/there-w...

troops are currently faced off against each other at the borders. if this militarism breaks into open conflict again, it is likely hundreds of thousands will die. many have credibly accused the government of genocide.

I also saw children starving to death, just after a UN agency gave the prime minister an agriculture award and a few years after the Nobel peace prize. Recently, it appears Germany has agreed to supply the federal government with more weapons.

As many as 600,000 people died, mostly civilians. most starved to death is a deadly siege: at one point thousands were dying from hunger every day. almost one in 10 women were raped or sexually assaulted. 2/n
