To illustrate potential uses, we apply the #SISSDAA framework to 3 case studies: (Scotland, Northern Ireland, Australia) to surface differences in abortion norms, policies, legalities & care models. We are also keen to see whether and how the principles might be applied more broadly.

I'm excited to share a new paper that's now available OA in Signs: www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/... We put forward a framework for a “feminist abortion,” which aspires to centre the person seeking abortion and their needs & to factoring in the power structures in which they are situated.

If men want to rape us they do not need to “pretend” to be women to get into our toilets or our changing rooms. They can just…rape us, in those spaces or other public spaces or in our workplaces or our homes, and they can be statistically pretty certain that they will never face punishment for this.

➡️ Negative and judgmental attitudes were as big a problem as pain itself   ➡️ Gender norms and power dynamics had a silencing effect  ➡️ Negative perceptions of health professionals follow from painful experiences   ➡️ Self-advocacy is challenging and should not be necessary in this context
