Hey, for anyone who loves and supports native plant gardening, esp in Colorado - this great local mom&pop business has been offering native plants that I've seen nowhere else for years. They hit hard times a couple of years ago, are recovering, but could still use a bit of help: gofund.me/816d9bddf

Post a pic you took, no context, to bring some zen to the feed 🪶
The flat arid grassland of southeastern Colorado, with the sun setting behind distant mountains. The sun is reflecting off of the heads of blue grama grass in the foreground.

If you see this, don't participate. It's a rigged study by Lisa Littman and unethical researcher J. Michael Bailey meant to undermine access to care. Spread the word.
“Screenshot of a promoted Reddit post by u/AYAGDOS. The post reads: ‘Navigating gender dysphoria? Join our confidential, cross-country study of 18–25 year olds to tell your story, challenge preconceptions, and have YOUR experience reflected in the science.’ Below is a banner graphic with the Northwestern University logo and the text ‘TRANS OR GENDERQUEER? SHARE YOUR STORY.’ The image shows a close-up of a hand with light pink nail polish, partially painted blue, held up against a blurred background. A link to ayagdos.org and a ‘Learn More’ button appear at the bottom, along with Reddit vote and share icons.”

As someone who works in pharma: no. It won’t bring the manufacturing back. It will just make our insurance premiums skyrocket. It’s too expensive to move and validate those factories. It’s not like setting up a metal stamping shop.

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired. It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

Repost with a photo of yours that would make a good album cover.
Backlit on a late afternoon with a mostly gray sky, three hairy woodpeckers perch on the railing of a tall gas storage tank, with a tall bare tree in the distance.

In my area, there is another spectrum of winter birding - loner vs. massive horde. A (terrible, sorry) pic from today shows both ends - note the crowd of Canada geese on the opposite shore from the bald eagle:
A blurry phone camera picture of a tiny lake, with a single bald eagle standing at the left shore and part of an enormous flock of Canada geese across the water at the far right shore.

Of all my photos, this is easily my favourite I've ever taken. This amphipod is legitimately about 1mm in size. So small your eyes can't make out any details on it. They refuse to sit still. They run away from the light. It just looks like a grain of sand. Genuinely a 1 in a million shot.

A BlueSky Thread. I wanted to say as both a #photographer and someone who seasonally works for the national park service. I believe there is value in photographing many beautiful places in the world, but I believe it’s important to not share online the exact location of those special places. (1/6)
A 700 year old human handprint lay imprinted onto a sandstone wall. The handprint was created by throwing charcoal at the back of the hand, creating an outline of a hand.

This is tangential to that but this also reminds me of the people that say “women are just using abortion as a form of birth control.” The tie in here is that young women are being seen as sluts and the related idea that if bad things happen to them, they deserved it. It’s awful.
