Using original survey data from the Bundestag & German state assemblies, @sfranceschet.bsky.social and I find that institutional efforts to address the challenges of working as an elected representative while caregiving would likely be successful. We are told to ignore the racism of Hegel, Kant, Locke etc because they were just "men of their time". So what do we do with the racism of current academics? Are they too just "men of their time"? What is this "time" that seems to make racists of men?

I went to bed early & woke up to an escalating trade war with Canada. For the love of hockey, WHY? I’d love it if we’d just thank them for being fantastic neighbors & then leave them alone. #ElbowsUp 🇨🇦 *rhetorical ‘why;’ I know why.

Two Black mayors took cities that the country loves to write off and made them measurably safer. That’s not a fluke. That’s a blueprint. Chicago and Baltimore just posted numbers that should be front-page news. They’re not. We need to talk about why. 🧵 www.theroot.com/opinion-blac...

SNAP has an outstanding ROI: every dollar we invest in SNAP generates $1.54 in economic activity. With SNAP cuts, people can’t continue to support these local grocers, so local businesses suffer. Everyone loses.

If you do group projects, I will beg you to make time for the students to work together IN CLASS. People say “we have to give them group projects because they’ll be expected to work in teams.” Yes. But not outside of work hours/on their own time! You assign group work? Make in-class time for it.

War crimes, crimes against humanity, and just plain crimes are fine, it seems, particularly if the crimes are against women. Jesse Watters got backlash, but no actual consequences, for his gleeful remarks on probable criming: “Women on base... port calls, women in Asia, you better be careful.”

Y’all, when I tell you I idolize Dr. West, it’s not hyperbole. This brilliant Black woman fought her way through OCEANS of misogynoir to give the world the foundations of GPS. W/o her work, many of us would be lost most of the time! And then, age 70, she got a PhD in public administration (VA Tech)!

Here Vox's explainer for just what is going on at the Department of Education which includes me saying I don't have faith in financial aid disbursement next year and, oh yea, I think we're in a constitutional crisis www.vox.com/policy/40233...
Screenshot of the article that reads: It’s not just children. In addition to bolstering underfunded K-12 schools and protecting the rights of kids with disabilities, the department also manages the federal financial aid process for college students. “I am not certain whether or not students will be able to get financial aid next year,” Dominique Baker, a professor of education and public policy at the University of Delaware, told Vox.Screenshot of the article that reads: While students and families are the most directly impacted by changes at the Education Department, those changes have also inspired a broader concern. Some of the programs terminated by DOGE are congressionally mandated, and if the president or Musk can simply stop them, “that means that Congress no longer actually functions,” Baker said.

“There are no longer checks and balances for the executive branch,” Baker said. “A significant part of this goes beyond education and speaks to a constitutional crisis that shapes the future of our country.”
