Today’s poem is called ‘Needles’.
This poem, entitled 'Needles' is presented in the form of a Christmas tree. These words form the shape of the tree:

I
wrote
a poem
in the shape
of a Christmas
tree but then forgot
to water it and only a few

days
later
there

And these words are distributed around the base of my poem 'tree' as if they've fallen off it:

were
words

Hi Stuart, I made this leap, from EYFS lead in a big primary school into a university post which includes research. Happy to chat… I took a pay cut to start with. I think the hardest thing is that even if you produce excellent research, that is no indication that policymakers will engage with it.

It’s quite a contentious word isn’t it! Stereotypes of women are that we are nurturing and find this natural - and hence don’t need to be skilled or rewarded for doing it. If you think of how people comment when men demonstrate nurturing behaviour, it’s deeply ingrained gender expectation.

From my research with pri and EYFS mothers: 1. Guilt and hyper ethic of care 2. Part-time suggested as a solution when mortgages are full-time 3. Societal expectations of nurturing women 4. Nurturing ‘incompatible’ with masculine leadership stereotypes 5. Burden of organisation at work and home
