Made a roast beef for the first time since before I brought mom home to stay. Her recipe, of course. Came out ~perfect~. She'd have loved it.

A- job on the leaves and spiderwebs in the yard, lads. I did very well and I deserve a reward.

That time someone dumped a toy house on the cemetery wall and, when I crouched a bit, some ✨ Hollywood Magic ✨ occurred.
A plastic dolls house sitting on a wall, taken from an angle which makes it look as if it might be one of the houses on the street.

Going through an automated phone tree to attempt to speak to a survivor advocate (HR guy who deals with dead employees) is even more demoralizing than you'd think.

Near as I can tell, a severely unbalanced load of cushions and stuffed animals was the straw that broke the camel's back. The question to be answered when the repairman comes is what besides the gasket is cooked and if it's worth fixing.

It is surprisingly difficult to get my mother's oxygen equipment picked up now that she doesn't need it anymore. And, honestly, I'm guessing a very large percentage of their customers don't need the equipment anymore for one specific reason. Maybe they should train their operators about that.

A photo of the book in hardcover against a wooden background. The cover is a very light peach colour and has illustrations by Adam Beer of: a café in orange, a seagull and a girl with a kite in blue, a green pigeon, pink cow parsley and plastic bags and a yellow origami boat and leaves. The title is The place I’m in ‘WHAT I SEE WHEN I STOP TO NOTICE’ in black letters. It has this quote at the bottom ‘This Book is lovely’ by Philip Pullman.A photo of a double-page spread from the chapter ‘POPPING IN’ against a blue background. The colour of the pages is pink and the text is black and illustrations are in black and white. There are observations by me (the text is too small for most people to read I this image) and a black-and-white illustration on the left-hand page by Adam Beer, of buildings, a shopping trolly, a dog tied up with its lead outside a shop, some peoples’ legs and feet, and people at a gallery looking at a painting of a woman in a black dress.AT THE PARK: A photo of a double-page spread from the chapter 'AT THE PARK'. The colour of the pages is pink and the text is black and illustrations are in black and white. There are observations by me (the text is too small for most people to read I this image) and a black-and-white illustration on the left-hand page by Adam Beer, of a park with runners and trees, a close-up of a bush and a bee near a lavender flower. The right hand page has illustrations of a couple walking in a park from behind, a dachshund on a lead and a woman on a bicycle - facing away from us.BLACK AND WHITE BUILDING: A double page open against a wooden background. On the right side is black text on white paper. On the right is black text on white paper with an illustration of a building in black and white by Adam Beer.

You guys want to hear a short but adorable story that happened right in front of me at the baggage claim in NYC yesterday? I wasn't part of it and there are bits I didn't catch but holy crap, I can't stop thinking about it.

Oh that's adorable! I figure I'll keep several things that will be pruned back over the years but right now so many of her things scream "mommy" or "childhood home" in little ways that I don't want to give up yet.

How can I get rid of her ancient alarm clock? I've heard that ticking nearly my whole life. Sure it cost $10 in 1985, but that tick means "mom's bedside." The galileo thermometer that brought her so much joy. The electronic thermometers that brought her so much data!

There are so many little things of my mom's that I want to keep. She moved here in July so I could take care of her, and we brought about 15 banker's boxes worth of her stuff. Not much for 82 years, especially since most of it was clothes. But also, many of these things meant ~that~ much to her.
