Anyone got tips on what really gets smoke and damp smell out of paper (books, notebooks, photos)? Have tried sealing up with baking soda, with activated charcoal, with fridge deoderisers. Putting stuff out in the sun worked best so far but sun is now in short supply. Cat litter worth trying?!

I sometimes wonder how much the fact that Health ministers are usually drawn from the demographic that uses the NHS the least (able bodied, white men, young-middle aged) is a factor in it's issues. It probably plays a part in the obsession with apps and convenience over continuity and human contact.

I know some really good researchers who are retraining for other jobs because they don’t like how AI dominates the discipline and don’t want to have to work with it. Makes me weep a bit, at the leaders letting this happen and even encouraging it. People aren’t getting left behind, they just leave.

I suspect men who do it never spot that they thank women for their work, like they’ve done them a favour, vs praise other men about their work, like they’re impressed by them. But I wonder if the men receiving those compliments, rather than a head pat, ever recognise the discrepancy.
