Incredibly honored to be recognized as a Rutgers "Changemaker" in the University's 2026 Research and Innovation Annual Impact Report. I owe it all to my dedicated students and postdocs! This would not have been possible without generous support from the NSF, DOE and @sloanfoundation.bsky.social

Exciting week for the group! Annual grp BBQ followed by a multi-day DFT/ORCA (@faccts.de) workshop led by @tkschramm.bsky.social from collaborators @grimmelab.bsky.social. Tim is gifted at relaying tricky DFT concepts in a digestible way so that chemists choose the "right" DFT tool for the job. 🔨💻🧪

It's official - I received tenure and promotion to Associate Professor. :) I couldn’t have gotten to this point in my career without the efforts of my outstanding group members (past and present) who dedicated a slice of their life to make it all happen. Onwards and upwards! 🧪

It’s not every day that one can claim their research becomes “textbook material”. Today is that day. Lirong’s PhD work has been immortalized in the newly minted 8th edition of Crabtree’s foundational textbook (inside AND front cover)!!!! Original paper here: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

Catalytically competent nickel(I)–isocyanide compounds for cross-coupling reactions
Nature Catalysis, Published online: 14 January 2026; doi:10.1038/s41929-025-01473-9Nickel-catalysed cross-coupling reactions generally use Ni(II) or Ni(0) precatalysts. Here the authors report thermally stable dinuclear Ni(I) complexes with commercial isocyanide ligands for the efficient catalysis in Kumada, Suzuki–Miyaura and Buchwald–Hartwig cross-coupling reactions.

A slightly finer point here: Although Klaus may have been referring to Russia in his naming, “Latin for Russia” is an oversimplification, given how national borders are drawn today. Ruthenia broadly covers many ethnically Slavic people from Eastern Europe. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutheni...
