I'm not sure if "t-shirt copy editor" is an occupation but those are acorns.
A green t-shirt that says "Cashew later…" and has a picture of a squirrel gathering acorns.

I'm completely mystified by all these big name signings at Lidl Trek. Particularly for GC riders, it seems like the org with the least cohesive answer to "what's the plan?"

Language is full of these chicken/egg situations. There was a time when people didn't know what a kilobyte was. People don't know what a kibibyte is because we don't say it enough.

They should've bumped major—I don't think it matters whether the code is macro-generated. Having said that, it's an easy thing to miss, so I wouldn't be angry.

Del Toro played a similar game, commenting publicly about rumors that Seixas might come to UAE, which encouraged UAE to both reassure him in that regard, and make him a good offer for renewal. Seixas understands that holding out will encourage Decathlon to match the other numbers floating around.

I don't think Visma expects to sign Seixas at any price. There are very strong incentives for Paul to stay at Decathlon, a French team with deep pockets where he is the undisputed team leader, even at the Tour. Tudor already tried a huge offer, but Seixas has good advisors - he's not going anywhere.

In fairness, a discount can be multiplied. If one vendor offers a 2% discount and another offers an 18% discount, and you describe the first situation as "2% cheaper than usual," then you could describe the second as 9x cheaper than the first. So maybe the real issue is just a lack of consensus :)

If you're designing a website for a restaurant, my tip would be: making it easy to find the menu is important, a 30-year breakdown of the founder's original vision and evolving philosophy less important.

I already struggle with high-arity functions, so anything that lowers the barrier to high arity terrifies me. I also think that stabilizing default_field_values effectively solves the problems that optional/default arguments would solve, but without the downsides.

Rust wasn't created to solve problems with syntax. I think the question then becomes "do you not have the problems that Rust solves, or are you more focused on syntax than solving your problems?" In any event, I don't think engaging helps much, the fiercest complaints come just before adoption.

I find it so strange when people write blog posts explaining TS intersection types using set theory. The whole reason people are confused by the name 'intersection types' is because they expected them to mirror set theory and they don't.

I don't have any inside info on the timeline, but since there are beta users, I would assume they are far enough along to ship real product. As for what it is, it seems that at a minimum they are offering a git-compatible forge with a non-git/jj-first backend. I assume we'll learn more at launch.

IMO, the browser UI belongs to the user. Outside of very explicit opt-ins, no 3rd party should be able to mess with their windows, tabs, scrollbars, menus, etc. People have all sorts of accessibility issues and prefs that would never cross your mind.

It's not unimportant. We interact differently with entities that have subjective experiences because we have empathy, and those that have subjective consciousness can suffer if we don't.

Been testing this 'sign-language-to-text' (SL2T) for almost a year & it's so awesome to see this out! Looked at this almost a decade ago & knew we'd get the tech & ML models there eventually (but super challenging). Talking w/ some Deaf folks, an equivalent of 'voice-to-text' was huge for them

Code provides a type of escape for hobbyists, and LLMs completely remove that feeling, making the process feel more like the rest of their messy, complicated "real" life. So now they need a new escape, which leads to a feeling of resentment.

If you're the sort of person that often does things they *could* delegate, because delegating—and the dialogue required to get the desired result—actually feels like more work, then LLMs are basically your worst nightmare.

Dusty Pomerleau @dpom.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
As a hobbyist, the thing I like least about LLMs is having non-deterministic interactions with computers. Many people take up programming as a hobby because communicating in code is precise/reproducible in a way that everyday human communication isn't. LLMs reintroduce natural language ambiguity.

The current approach to AI is so brutish and inelegant. If someone invented a clothes dryer that dries your clothes in 10 seconds, but it cost 100 USD worth of electricity to run it each time, you would not buy that product. The dryer company paying your electric bill to boost sales is unsustainable
