I *like* wrapping cables, and packing up my gear on my own ensures I haven't left something behind before driving East four hundred miles. In your rush to clear the stage, hastily scattering my belongings around actually ensures I'll be on stage *longer*, trying to find where you put everything.

Additionally, when I tear down my musical equipment, I am performing a ritual. You wouldn't rob a coffee head of their ritual by measuring & grinding their beans for them, boiling the water, choosing metal mesh or paper filter, etc.

Some pieces of musical equipment are *more* awkward to move with more movers involved. I have occasionally hurt myself trying to accommodate bad lifting partners, drunk "helpers", those who don't know what they're doing, and so on. My gear has occasionally been damaged this way too.

I'm not playing coy by refusing help with loading my gear. It's not like I'm playfully refusing dessert in hopes you'll talk me into having some. When you say "do you want help carrying that?" and I say "no", that's the fucking end of that conversation.
