As a Nassau County resident, for the love of God DO NOT let Blakeman beat Hochul!! You know all those reasons you appreciate living in a blue state even if you're in a reddish part of it? Remember those and vote like they could be lost at any time.

Watching the #Islanders home opener, where before the game, a 105-year-old WWII veteran played the national anthem on the sax. Sounded great, and brought our guys good luck, it's 3-0 Isles in the 2nd!

Wish I'd managed to learn to crochet while my Nana was still alive, she tried teaching me but it just didn't take. I've had problems with needle crafts since my Girl Scout days. Good luck with Gonzo.

In other news, finished The Gates of Midnight by Helene Wecker earlier today. It's the third in the trilogy that started with The Golem and the Jinni and a beautiful ending to their story, though I hope some fanfic writers check in on them in the future.

you're welcome. the state of third-party Bluesky apps has improved a lot in the last year or so as it's started getting more popular. Indigo in particular is only a few months old. The developers of both it and Skeets are very open to accessibility feedback.

The last family member to read names this morning urged his listeners to honor the victims of 9/11 with love, not hate, through memory and service, not vile rhetoric against the perceived other. That's how I want my niece to know this day. That's the example my parents continue to set.

We watch the ceremony every year, the solemn reading of the names, the bells marking those moments when everything changed. This year, they added a 7th moment of silence in honor of those lost to 9/11-related illnesses. My dad isn't among them yet, someday he might be.

I spent today with my mom, a flight attendant who was in the air 25 years ago, and my dad, who was a Lieutenant with the FDNY who spent that day and much of the next few months at Ground Zero. They both made it home, but the memories and grief of that day haven't faded for any of us.

We talk a lot about the importance of voting but in doing so, we romanticize it, and I've come to believe that's a mistake. It's not romantic, it's not glorious, it's not an expression of your ideals or your identity. It's selecting the best outcome for the most people. That's all it is. Do that.

HOLY SHIT DUDES fucking with the environment is now not just a sin (which Francis also said), it is classed as a direct fuck-you to God and a central tenet of the reasoning is the need to care for "our common home," i.e. you are morally obligated to think about the other people who also live here
